Alrighty, got a few choices:

1. Dana 60(locked) + 14FF(locked) - 4.56 gears and "30,000 miles on them" $1,400

2. same deal as above, rear locker only. $1,200

3. Dana 44 + 14 FF - 4.56 gears, open $800

Hauled #2 home a little while ago...pic at the bottom if anyone cares. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

give me the number and i'll umm call em... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

To confirm the ratio you can count the teeth or most of the time there stamped on them. If by "locked" you mean detroits, I would go with number one since a detroit for a front 60 is in the ballpark of 460-520. But I guess it also depends on what your using your truck for and if you need a detroit in the front.

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

Called him...#2 set has 9,000 miles on 'em. I am so all over this /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ryan, he's got a $600 4.10 Dana 60 to match your rearend...I'm gonna go pull the covers off tomorrow- lemme know if you want me to check it out /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

I would go with number 2. But thats just me. Oh, and to find the gear ratio, look at the stamp on the ring gear. There will be a long vin number thing, the date it was made, and two numbers that are the r&p. Divide the high number by the low one, and you got the ratio. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

for 2 hundred dollars more i would definitely go for number one.the detroit for it is like said 400 dollars and then you have to reset the ring and pinion.so anether 400 for that.so for 800 dollars you will be locked front and rear or spend the 200 dollars now and be done with it.if i had the cash id go with #1

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

depends on what kind of lockers these all are. could make a big difference in value.

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

He says all his stuff is military (definitely explains the low mileage) so I believe they are all Detroits /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

# 2 is what I'd choose unless the front is a selectible locker. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

I hear ya, I've never had a locker before (let alone a front locker)and I'm pretty sure the first time I drive in the snow there will be some casualties /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
Truth is I don't think I need a front one.

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

#1 would be the better deal if the 60 locker is a Deeetroit but since you said that they're military surplus it's probably a 60 w/ a TruTrac(I think) that came out of a M1028(military K30 shelter carrier) or a M1031(cab/chassis).

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

I thought the military D60's that were 'locked' were Trak-Locks (Trash locks)/forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

If they are military, then I would definitely go with #2. The front in a military is usually the trac-lok, so unless you're ok with an LSD front...

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

Are non-locked military front axles limited slip?

Re: Another good deal or not post...1 ton stuff

Non locked military fronts are...not locked, as in open diff. Throw a Lock Right in there and call it good./forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

That is my plan anyways.
