Another "Is this a K30?" post

Yeah cab lights aren't standard on K30's. Looks like it from what the pics show.

Cab lights were optional on all CK trucks. They are only mandatory on Duallys, because the federal laws say vehicles over a certain width must have cab lights.

Okay, my last three K30's (all single wheel) all had lights on top and on the tailgate. Good to know thats not standard.

Still seams weird that it has chevy emblems and the title is a GMC but maybe its all legit.

Sorry, but it looks like any other than a true 1 ton.

No hydro-boost.
Rear u-bolts look like the round-bend type rather than the square where the threads point down.
The title says "C1" which indicates a 2wd 1/2 ton. A K30 would be a "K3".
There appears to be a NP208 t-case rather than a 205 since the shifter knob is laying almost horizontal and the box for the shifter appears there, too.
And then yes, no cab or tailgate lights, especially for a 1986 year.

Something sounds fishy with this rig.

From what little I can see of the differentials, it looks like a 1-ton to me. The VIN number is supplied, so you can use that to find out.

Good eyes Wes! I didn't even think to look at the Master. DUH

1500 2wd... Hmmm....

truck was built when i bought it,the vin # will come up 86 gmc the guy before me switched it to silverado
Yeah... right... :rolleyes:

I took the VIN number, and ran it through Carfax, and they are showing that it comes up as a 1986 GMC C1500. Must be a pieced together truck. Beware of this truck!

VIN 1gtdc14h9gj529739

1=USA
g=General Motors
t=GMC truck
d=??
c= 2WD???
1= 1/2 ton??
4= 2 door
9= check digit
g= 1986
j= Janesville, WI
529739th vehicle

Thats what I can figure out.

The swtich from GMC to Chevy wouldn't bother me. That's just emblems, grille etc. The VIN coming up C1500 would definatly ward me away though.

Not sure on the new body styles, but I have an 89 1 ton that doesn't have hydroboost on it.

it looks like 1 ton running gear though. i wouldnt be afraid of it. how many of us build trucks that are pieced together? doesnt mean it was done wrong. i know it not a 1ton but if ytou couls get it for the right price then why not?

It's not so much that it's pieced together, it's that it's not disclosed. It would be one thing if the auction said "started with '86 gmc 1/2 ton, swapped in 1ton running gear". Then you know exactly what your getting. He advertises as "1 ton" and mabey it is, mabey it isn't. We don't really know.

If someone buys this truck thinking they have a true 1 ton to haul a huge camper, trailer or 5th wheel it could pose unsafe conditions. Frame is thinner, brakes are weaker, t-case is weaker, springs, etc.

The title has me worried too. What if the truck is stolen and another VIN/title was used to sell it?

The seller should disclose everything about the truck though. Its possible he doesn't know if he purchased the truck like this.

I asked him if it really was a K30 since it was missing the hydro boost, and pointed out the other stuff mentioned above and asked if the title will match the frame and cab and he responded with these few words:

1/2 ton cab 208t-case
