The motor arrived today(pics to come). Donor vehicle is a 2005 GMC Van w/ 2800 miles on it. Engine mounts and crossmember are an off the shelf part that should make it almost a bolt on deal(more info to come) that I'm kind of being the Guinea Pig for. If it works it should take one of the headaches out of the swap for other people that are interested in doing it. I'll update this thread with pics and info along the way. Can't wait to get started.:D

could ya break down LQ4 for dummies like me............ you're swaping something into something thats about all I got.

Is some kind of fancy new motor going into, I suspect, the gen-1 Blazer in his sig.

Now, what KIND of fancy new motor... hmm. I have no clue. Ah, Google is my friend. Wikipedia tells us that it's the 6.0L Vortec, in the region of 300hp.

LQ4 is a Gen III 6.0 I believe.

Yep, on the money. With out all of the smog stuff and with all of the torque management tuned out it should be over 400HP at the crank, we'll see though.

Not much to report motor wise. Finally got rid of the crazy shifter that was in there though. Check this thing out.

i think my next project is going to have a vortec 8100 if i can get ahold of one, did you retrive the entire harness from the donor vehicle? what transmission are you gonna run behind it?

Nice! Don't forget a custom harness isn't necessary, i can rework (and test run) yours or hook you up with a reworked factory harness if need be.

We also have our first batch of 73 up crossmembers done & available for GenIII swaps.

About that vortec 8100, i can get ahold of them but its tough. they're a lot harder to get than GenIII engines.
If your serious and you've got the money i can get you a 8.1L and make it turnkey (4 wire hook up on the harness).. :wink1:

Tried to send you a PM but it didn't work so here goes.

I completely forgot you were doing harnesses now.

What are you charging for a reworked harness?

Let me know.

Thanks,
James

PS, also anymore info on the 73 and up crossmembers would be much appreciated. My next project is going to be an 87 4x4 SWB w/ a 6.0.

You can call Kevin at pacificfab.net and he can answer any questions you have. Him and Ryan are the ones that mod all the harnesses and what not.

James,

I'm begging you......while you have that engine out, please spend some time doing cleanup and detail painting on the firewall and the front parts of your frame!!!! :deal:

It's SO much easier to do with the clip off (and engine out) and it will show off the new motor a lot nicer. Take a look at Burt4X4's photos of his motor installed and you'll see what I mean......I think all he did was a quick rattlecan job and it still looks great.

That is all.

.....No it isn't. Hook up those subwoofers too for crying out loud!!!

:usaflag:
