Another LQ4 Swap getting ready to start...

Yep, on the money. With out all of the smog stuff and with all of the torque management tuned out it should be over 400HP at the crank, we'll see though.
whoa I wish, the smog stuff is good for maybe 5-10 fwhp, and the torque management just has to do with transmission shifting behavior to get every little bit of life out of the tranny they (gm)can. The program basically doesnt let you run high rpms because it retards the timing along with a rev limiter at higher rpms again for transmission life. you will *definitely* feel a SOTP difference for the Trq management, but no fwhp gain. When I did my lq4 swap, I had headers, smog delete, trq management delete, home ported maf sensor and home ported throttle body, and a z06 cam and custom tune, and was just barely 400(407)fwhp. It will take a little more to make 400fwhp, but even stock with tune and the mentioned things deleted out, you will no doubt have a smile a mile wide when you mash the skinny pedal, keep us posted with the progress.

any updates? I'm gathering the stuff to do the LM7 swap in Dad's 69 Firebird, I just love me some Gen III performance :)

Hmm, wonder how much work it would take to put one of those in my 90 Blazer.....

(bigblaze433) we have search buttons/engines for a reason. the hybrid conversion section at www.ls1tech.com has an insurmountable amount of info about any kind of swap you can think of. If you still cant find anything over there, you can pm me since I have done the swap in a 91 v10 blazer.

mounting is pretty easy, the 4l80e will bolt up to your np241 if you change the input shaft and get the adapter. Then you wont have to change driveshafts. After everything bolts together, you can use the same crossmember and tranny/tcase mount and then just fab some motor mounts to use the factory clam style motor mounts. From there it is just wiring, and given there are alot of turnkey wiring harnesses being offered out there, you have quite a selection, pretty cool though a fellow ck5 member does gen 3 harnesses. Also for tbi blazers, you can use a vortec style fuel pump in the tbi intank sender that will supply enough fuel for the engine. Splice some fuel lines, and tranny cooler lines, you will most likely want to keep the o2 sensors in the exhaust depending on what kind of emissions testing is required. I would keep them either way though, helps the computer self diagnos different things going on in the engine. I loved my blazer after the 6.0 swap, and hated to sell it, but would do it again in a heartbeat. I actually really want to in my m1008, but the lack of funds is keeping that idea at bay. I definitely want to see the progress on this truck, looks like you will have a really fun truck when its all said and done.

will it bolt up to a 700r4?

yes, but you need a crankshafter spacer for the flexplate. Gen IIIs have 1 bolt hole in a different location, but most agree the 1 missing bolt isn't that important.

I'm doing the LQ4 swap into my '73. Should have it fired up this Friday! Let me know if you need any help!
