Another NP208 NP241 Clocking Thread!

Well welcome back!

Thanks, trying to get myself in gear and get this thing going by the first local club trip in the fall. Lots going on but I'm going to try to get it back together. Boatsiding will have to wait, I just want to bash it around again.

Good to know that you are still around!
Now get to work so that we can see what you do!
LMAO!

Yeah, just kinda dormant. Lot to process this last year and lost all my motivation for a long time. Finally dragging myself back out of that and getting focused again. Hoping to get the floor finished this weekend, get the driveshaft back in, fill the t-case with fluid and start on the tunnel cover. We're going up to my SIL's Saturday night to visit for the night and picking up my new DD Sunday evening so I don't have an abundance of time but I'm hoping to get SOMETHING done to this thing.

Sorry for you, whatever has happened, but we are glad that you are getting going again. I hope that I say this for all of us here, but I hope that we can help when needed!

Thanks! This place is full of the best type of people, no doubt in my mind. Now to dig through my phone and see if I have any pictures to put up here....

This is the hole I started with. I just started flexing the metal up to create a hump to make room for the t-case and trimmed off the excess then welded it together. Wound up with this so far. I'll get the seat bracket cut down to fit the holes that are three and hopefully be back in business!

It's not very pretty and the tunnel cover is going to be a trick to get to fit, but I think this will work the best and get me back on the trails the quickest. Get this done and then I've got a dozen other projects to get to but I want this done first if possible!

I don't know yet. I just want it mobile so I can get it out of the way. I'm thinking just weld some tube on it to extend it for now. I had planned on doing a super duty shaft and get a 1350 yoke for the 10b but I can't swing that just now. Tube or pipe I can snag from work and try to true it up good enough to run.

Ok, pages 58 & 62 of my build are full of my dealings with clocking my 241.

Going to try answering your questions in the first post. Hope I don't miss anything, just let me know. I might reply in steps too.

First thing I'd like to say is......body lift. Do a 1" body lift if you don't have one already. This is going to be so much easier with it. I can't comprehend the PITA you'll experience with the trans tunnel and T-case linkage if you keep it stock. Look at this picture and you'll see what I mean. There is no room for tools or hands.

The passenger seat can be left in place easily. Just be careful where you cut. The bracing for the front mounts is RIGHT IN THE WAY. I don't have original seats but I am using the front bolt holes. If you cut little by little, you should be able to save the mounts. In this picture, you can see a bolt hole drilled next to the opening. The original mount is gone, only a couple inches back from this this hole. If you look real hard, at the right side corner, you can see part of the mounting hole.

In - with some questions (PM me if this is too much of a hijack)

Please confirm this is with 1" body lift -

How high above the floorboards is this...? I have the 1" body lift but I have an internal cage (seats mount to cage) that I have to work around.

It's got a 1" body lift. The T-case is a smidge above the floor board but I pushed the drivetrain up higher than normal. My trans mount is now ~ 1/4" above the frame rail. So if you build your crossmember to keep it in the same location, you wont have floor issues. However, having the cut out will help some with getting the linkage worked out.

I now have the front part of my cage done, which also has the seats bolted to the cage. I plan on filling the hole in and now I don't have to worry about a flat floor for seat mounting.

Sorry, truck isn't in my possession for me to double check or measure. Maybe this weekend.

Ok, I don't have the body lift on mine, just a good floor board massage and some patch work body panels. Going to taper the inside seat mount and hopefully retain the tilt feature with some redesign on the mounts.

I manage to get some more done today. Got the tunnel cover sliced up and welded back together before the heat ran my fat butt back in the a/c. Think I'm going to swap to a radio project this evening when it cools off but I did get something done. Need to do a little trimming and paint it then it'll be time to start on the shifter.

Resembles a chicken coop floor, but the floors are done. Now to get some work done on the shifter.

Got the passenger seat brackets cut down and the seat mounted. Getting closer.

So now I've run into an issue with the shifter. Gotta call JB Customs here in a bit and see if we can get the linkage problems straight. Not long now I hope!

E-mailed Jon at JB and he informed me that the 208 and 241 take different shifter arms. I had ordered this for the NP241 since I thought that was what I was going back with. Since the NP208 is in there now, I have to order another shifter arm which I'm hoping to have this weekend so I can get the shifter mounted and ready to go. Probably fill the t-case with fluid and put in the rear drive shaft Tuesday (wife has school so I won't work over). Might pull the CV apart if it's raining and start grinding the stops on it and measure to see what size and length tube I need for it.

If you can't tell I'm on the computer tonight where typing is MUCH easier than my phone. It doesn't speak english very well, let alone redneck so I have a heck of a time getting anything typed out.

I built a little box to lift my shifter up 2" and I was able to keep the stock linkage.
I got the idea from MrK5's thread.

That could be a cheap fix to run the 208 until the swap.

The arm was $14 shipped and I already have the cable shifter. I bought it a few years ago when I started this whole thing so I wouldn't have to deal with that issue. It should be here this weekend and I hope to get it mobile again, even without that front shaft in yet. Hopefully it'll still start.... :surepal:

Stalled out again because of family and trips and work and ARGH! Why can't I go back to the days when no one liked me or wanted to do anything with me and I could get $h!t done?!? :doah:

I'm right there with you. Had plans to work on my SFA swap for a couple hours last night, only to be shot down. I worked for about 30min instead. Such is life.

Got the new shifter arm installed yesterday and cut the cable bracket. Today I had a welder at work put it back together where I think it will work. Going to mock it up tomorrow evening and see how it does. Then I've got to figure out how I'm going to get the cable through the floor and where to mount the shifter. Still need to get the driveshaft clearanced and order my headers. Work has me feeling like a zombie right now. :zombie18: 16hr days for the last three weeks and probably another week or two of it to go till this outage is over. Gonna try to get SOMETHING done though!

So the long days hopefully finished up Thrusday night with a 11-7 shift. Cable bracket was put on but I can't shift out of 4-lo because the cable and shift arm are almost parallel. I guess there's going to be more cutting and welding before I get it right yet. Hope to order my headers this weekend and maybe get the shifter working. Some buddies are riding this weekend and it's got me wanting to get this thing going again. I've got to get a tooth pulled Friday morning and some errands to run. Maybe I can fiddle with it that evening if all goes well. Stupid teeth....

Well I hope that you can get it done!
But hopefully your teeth let you.
