I just bought an 84 K3500 with a TH400 that's messed up, and was going to convert to a 465 since I have a spare setup, but I have been talked out of it by some friends for several reasons. I don't think I'd put a TH700 behind the 454, but if I had plenty of cash, I wouldn't mind installing a 4L80E. /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

Why not a th700? Just have it built up by a reputable shop or even better would be to get one from Bowtie OD. I had my 700 built to the gills a few years ago and haven't had a problem what so ever and my built 406 probably makes more power than a stock 454. For the amount of money it would take to swap in a STOCK 4L80 you could have a built 700 and a new set of tires and wheels for the same price. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I used to work for a trans shop here in SLC, the owner was a D!CK, but he did know his trannies, if he built your trans he would adjust your TV cable as much as needed for free, he always said that it is the number 1 killer of transmissions, even if it costs ya a little, I'd be letting the shop that installed it, adjust it! most guys that build em, know how to adjust em too, just my .02 /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I cant imagine GM building a tranny that failed so much !!! ???? That tranny must of cost GM millions in warrnty work ..I would hate to be the engineers that thought that mess up !!!! Does anyone know of at least one 700r that hasnt failed YET !!! The scary thing is that it seems that 1 out 2 tranny shops build the tranny right the second time , GM should of done it the first time !!!! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif I pitty the guy that spend 4000.00 on a blaz ,then have to spend 2000.00 on a 700r rebuild a few months later . My 700 blew after a few months and I went to the strongest automatics ever built to the Whole auto industry ....400 turbo [Old shocool] !!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I know that a 700 can be built by a VERY repitual shop to deal with what ever you have to put to it .... but at 2000.00 ...whooooooooo /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
My blaz had like 331 gears and a over drive ...it was more irating then cool ...it took forever to downshift to get to a a good speed to pass another car ....
And swapping to manual trans was not a good idea !!!!!! Those tranys shift like a bunch of rocks on a stick !! /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif I have one of those in my C65 and hate it ALL of the time !!!! /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gifI have a hard enougt time NOT spilling Starbucks on my balls with an auto ... /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

2K is nothing these days. With everything being computerized these days 2K can just cover parts sometimes. I 1,500 for my built 700 and felt that was cheap. A th700 is a transmission that was built like most of todays autos that are complicated and expensive but since they came from the same era of trucks that were getting th400's which are dirt simple and cheap, people familiar and compfortable with early technology freak out about what it costs to build a 700 vs. a th400.

I'm looking at built 47RE's for a dodge cummins from ATS that I would like to buy, will cost me around $5k just for the tranny, not installed. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Todays autos cost alot more than an old th400, figure to not get below 2K on a quality rebuild in a fullsize anymore. Learn it, live with it, like it. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif
