But at least its a damn good runner! Drives straight and true, no shimmy, rattles, etc. Plenty of power but very, very rust.

1985 K20, 350/465/208, 10B, 14SF, 3.42's, 2" body lift, tons of rust on the body, everything else underneath is very solid and rust free. Price was cheap. Real cheap.

Gonna be a good work truck, hauler, etc. Only needs an alternator and a u-joint in the front shaft. Aluminum wheels are rusty, too. :doah:

Thats what I want to find! This summer, I'm planning on buying a 73-80 Pickup. Do you mind me asking how much you scored that for? And how you found out about it?

A buddy of mine and his dad run a used car dealership and repair shop. They both know how hard up I am on the GM trucks.

So last night I got a text from him asking if I would be interested in this local guys truck after he traded it in. I said "sure, how much?" He replied for me to make a reasonable offer so I said that since its so rusty and if I were to part it out, theres nothing special about these trucks that make it worth a lot. So I said "$500 cash".
This morning he asked me if I was coming up to get the truck. I told him I'd be there in a few and went up to test drive it. Looked it over, drove it and liked it. Good enough for a beater hauler. Went back and paid for it, took it down to my shop with the rest of the crap parked by the house.

So, $500 for it and it runs and drives great. Its got Flintstone floorboards, too. No rockers, no cab mounts, not much of sheetmetal underneath or on the sides. BUT...for some reason, the entire floor of the bed is STRAIGHT and rust free! :dunno::dunno::dunno: I'm so tempted to remove the bed, take it apart and save the entire floor for my K30 and replace this floor for a junk one.

Its gonna be perfect for towing, hauling, daily driving, etc. :waytogo:

I have the same disease, I bought an ugly, rusty 1980 K30 crew cab yesterday. :haha:

Well my friend was told about a 3/4 ton diesel 4wd for $500, he said meh..., then they said with an electric dump bed... he said i'll take it.
He goes and looks at it, it's on 33" tires, has a big hole in the back of the bed on the corner, where rust started and they torched the rust out, so he drove it home.
It's an 82 and it drives like a dream, it had been sitting for a while then the owner had the engine rebuilt a few years ago and then he didn't like how it pulled the horse trailer so he bought a BBC truck.
So he let it go for $500.
I told my friend take the dump bed but it on your other truck, and I'll buy the rest for $300:whistle:
He said OK but it will be a while so don't rush me.:dunno:

Why does it look like something caught fire at the front of the bed?
Because something did. I haven't checked or asked yet. First things first, I will crawl under the bed tomorrow to check and see if its got burn marks under or if they're just at the top part thats visible.

I cleaned out the truck real quick today. It had TONS of trash all over inside it. Wrappers, bags, paper targets, classified ad mags, few boxes of empty shells and some with live rounds, few tools, a knife, more trash, etc. I think you get the idea.

In the bed I found the factory jack handle assembly and a used Hi-Lift jack along with the spare tire. Few more empty shells back there, too.

Then I got my Stihl leafblower and blew the cab and bed out. Tons of dust and more crap flying out everywhere. Blew all that out into the streets to let nature take care of.

Once I was happy with that quick cleaning, I crawled under the truck to check out more stuff. This is where it gets weird considering its a K20.

Its got factory 52" rear springs. Springs were 3 leaf and an overload. The rear shackle hangers were in the forward 4 holes on the side of the rails. The rivets were untouched. Factory indeed.

Next I noticed that even though its got the 14SF, it had 11" drums on it. Thought all these '81 and newer trucks came with 13" drums? Thought the 11" drums were only available from the '80 and older trucks? I knew the '80 and older ones used both 11" and 13" but never knew the '81 and newer ran 11".

Thats about all I checked for now. Rest of the drivetrain appeared solid. Looking forward to spring so I can take it up to the car wash and clean the whole thing, inside and out, and underneath.
