another sending unit questions

ok my step sons POS 1990 Jimmy's gas gauge hasnt worked since he ran it out of gas.

it just reads "overfilled" all the time.
so did running it empty screw up the gas gauge on the dash or the sending unit?

What do you mean by "overfilled"?

If the needle is at the 3 o'clock position then there is an open in the circuit. It can be easy to find but it takes a little time and a trip to Radio Shack.

I wrote up some directions on how to trouble shoot a gas gauge. If you want PM me and I'll email them to you.

If the needle is pointing somewhere else, post some details or even a pic and we'll see what can be done.
