I'd go with the 17" wheel swampers all around, mainly because it is going to be a mainly off-road application, and also I peronally don't like the idea of different size wheels front and rear. I think it would adversely affect the on-road handling for what little street driving you are going to be doing with it.

interco told me....

to run regular swampers up front were the weight of the engine is because of the flotation properties and put boggers on the rear where there isn't much weight as they will dig well on there own and boggers up front may just sit me down on the frame as they are designed to dig so hard but i told them it was a strickly mud machine which it is...... i ran the 15/39.5/16.5 tsl up front and the 18/39.5/16.5 boggers on the rear of my '80 k5 and have loved it...i carry a 39.5 gumbo as a spare...but just to see for my self i'm working on another truck i recently bought and i plan on running the 16/38.5/16 bogger all the way around it..but as i said its all mud here a little flexy in spots but no rocks to climb on.

Ditch the bias-ply altogether. Go with a set of the new 38x15.50R16 Mickey Thompson MTZ Radials. Excellent strength, great on road manners, and a true 15.5 inch wide tire, meaning 15.5 inches of contact patch. Those 15 inch wide TSL's you're looking into only put 12.5 inches to the ground. You'll never feel the rest until you get into the deep stuff, or stuck. I've got a set of thornbirds right now and they are good in the deep stuff, but on hard pack snow and ice and even water they aren't the greatest there is. Plus they are extremely hard to balance, causing premature bearing and axleshaft wear.

wow this thread is a blast from the past, glad to see somebody cares, but i really dont want to spend 300-360 a tire on tires that were meant for mall cruisers.

right now im leaning towards the 39.5/15r17 tsls or a set of 39 or 42 inch iroks.

I vote TSL's on a 17" rim.... If you do 17" front and 15" rear, think about spares.... :D Plus, you'd be goofy, and we'd all laugh at you. HAHAHA!!

Well, I'll let you know how they work out on my '78. I've had my fill with interco's, and M/T's are made by Cooper, which the Discoverer LT was the best snow tire I've ever had on my truck without siping. And I'm really digging the 15.5 inches of ACTUAL contact patch. But my truck is still a daily driver too, so if all you see is mud, your bearings wont last too long anyways.

How do the Mickeys or the Iroks wear?I know the Baja belted Mickeys wear really fast but ride and dig pretty good.I like the look of the new MTZ.But I also like the look of the Iroks.I think you should go with either the Irok or the MTZ.Which ever wears the best.

From my understanding, the MTZ is a 40,000 mile tire. I think I'll be lucky to get 20,000 out of my Thornbirds. I don't know about the IROK tires, Cascade 4WD doesn't stock 'em.
