My GM-Chrysler ratio is getting dangerous :doah:. the 00 Grand Cherokee Laredo that i picked out and was going to be my first rig finally is mine :haha:. Dad is Driving 100+ miles a day and needed a new rig + i was pretty miserable driving the dodge so he went and picked up a 04 Grand Cherokee Laredo 2wd instead of 4wd with 68k miles on it vs the 172k on the 00. Both of them have the 4.0l Straight 6. It of course has a laudry list of problems to deal with.

1.Rear door lock solenoids
2.Spark plugs (a full tune up wouldnt hurt)
3.02 Sensor
4.Both front C.V boots,Some say its impossible, other say it takes 20 minutes? Anyone got experience there?
5/Rear axle is leaking out of both axle seals, diff. cover aaaannnd last but not least the pinion seal :doah: considering just taking it to a rear end shop for that.
6.A.C just went out for unknown reasons

The transmission was just professionally rebuilt with a few H.D options so its down for another 150k or so. Motor is running flawlessly still despite above problems. Dad did tires/alignment at my old shop just a few months ago and i balanced/rotated them at my shop today as well as did new rotors/pads in the rear which were down to metal. I also did a oil change with 5-30 valvoline full Synthetic today. Planning on sticking to full Syn from here on out every 6k. Dad put Brembo rotors up front and new pads just a few months ago as well. Looking forward to really just cleaning this up and being being able to finally enjoy a NICE DAILY DRIVER.

If you count my dodge as a Chrysler (its really a mitsubishi mighty max and chrysler owns a portion of mitsubishi) then im 3-3 on GM to Chrysler products :doah:. Thinking about selling off my dodge and getting a utility trailer to serve its purpose but a hell of a lot cheaper/easier to maintain.

well....there is a reason i wouldnt own a wj. out of the 9 jeeps i have had. only one was a wj. and i got it just to flip. they are a love/hate vehicle for me. i love them for looks and the crap load of $$ i make off of them. i hate them because i dont want to own somthing thats high maintanance like them. otherwise i would have a 04 overland with the 4.7HO.

lets address your problems here

1. the door lock solenoids are part of the door latch. they are easy to replace but the parts are $$

2. full tune up would consist of plugs and a pcv valve. there isnt much else unless you want to replace the fuel filter/pressure regulator. those are about $100. although prob. not a bad idea after 170k

3. skip

4. you will need the special boot clamp pliers. good ones. not harbor frieght junk. the factory replacement boots are really nice. 10x better than aftermarket ones. they arent very hard to replace. just messy

5. that brings us to the rear axle. dont waste youre money paying someone else to do it. the axle seals are easy. you will need new bearings and bearing retainers also. once you take the brakes off its only 4 nuts to get the axle out. even if you pay a machine shop to replace the bearings it wont be too bad for $.
the pinion seal :dunno:. depends on your skill level. i would mark the nut and the pinion before removal, replace the seal, then tighten the nut back to where it was. but the problem is you will have to hold the yoke from moving when you tighten the nut. that can be hard sometimes. you cant use an impact gun on them unless you want to rebuild the whole thing shortly after.

when you are ready to do any of these just pm me and i can give you a more specific run down of whichever thing you are repairing.

Well update time.

Done
2.Spark plugs
3.02 Sensor, This ended up being disconnected and once it was reconnected the code was gone.
4.Both front C.V boots. I went ahead and replaced both front axles here just this weekend. Wasnt too hard to do once i understood it.

To Do
Rear door lock solenoids
Rear axle is leaking out of both axle seals, diff. cover aaaannnd last but not least the pinion seal :doah: considering just taking it to a rear end shop for that.
A.C just went out for unknown reasons

Im getting a bit of pulling on the freeway after doing the axle shafts on the way home. Gonna get it re-aligned on warranty tomorrow at my work because... well my test drive likely knocked it out of alignment :D.
