I installed the side mount ball whith a 102" whip on the Blazer today. Problem is it sticks out like the simple drawing I made. How can I get it to stick straight up?

I had the same problem with mine. My ball mount was a split ball that had a bolt holding the two halves together. All I had to do was rotate the halves until the antenna was straight.

Yeah, I did that to install it. If I rotate it now, it gets worse.

It leans further away from the truck. There has to be some type of "shim washer" or tapered washer that would fix it.

Yeah, I never thought 'o that. I could make one of those!
I bent the antenna for now so I don't whip oncoming trucks. campers, etc; here's some pics from just after dawn this morning.

Quick and easy would be too tie it too the topper. Use a tennis ball too keep it from making contact with the metal of the body.

You should be able to adjust the whole ball by loosening the nut on the back of the mount. Then use the angled split of the ball to get it pointed just right.

Oh.......kool, first one I ever have messed with. Thanks man. I didn't know it would do that, obviously.

looks like the base itself is angled outwords, maybey use plastic washers to bring the bottom of the mount out

Use tennis ball on ant. So it is not grounding out on body when you talk. I have seen this fry a nice cobra.

Looking at that pic, I usely go higher with the mount. Like just below where the topper bolts on, on the pass side, differectly above rear tire.

i'd get rid of that big 'ol spring first, that big whip will move around enough as it is, then adjust the ball to straighten up the whip. I have heard that those springs will mess with your SWR anyways, in a bad way, or make it hard to adjust.

And yeah, side mount antennas in AZ usually get ripped off,,,,,by mountainsides:doah: .

I figured it would get tore off, but I know where to get another. So the spring is bad????????

this is what i have heard from fellow drivers, and cb shops while out on the road, make's it hard to adjust correctly, or make's the swr too high or something.

I've always ran the heavy duty (pot belly) spring with the 102" stainless steel whip and have never had a SWR problem.

I have been told the spring actually helps with SWR as the extra length from the spring gets the antenna closer to be an actual 1/4 wave. 102" is slightly short.
