Anti-theft and kill switches etc...

You guys live in a whole different world than I do. The other day I pulled up to the bar, and I noticed the guys dome light was on in the vehicle next to me. I didn't think anything of it, I just opened the door and turned it off for him. I knew who it belonged to. The buzzer went off so the keys were obviously still in the ignition. His AR-15 was also sitting between the seat and the console. Pretty common around here really.

That was 50 or 60 years ago for us....there's some thievin' bastards around here...we also have a large flow in and out of outsiders...on any given day I see many different state tags...they will move in, do their business...send the vehicles to Mexico and be on their way to another city. However most probably are after BMW's and Mercedes and upper end cars...
I just know that after I get mine painted it will be a shiny oddity that will capture too much attention around here for me....

Target is big enough that after my first K5 got stolen i've never seen it again and that was about 12 years ago.

what year model was it?

Most trucks end up in Mexico or Russia

Mine was a 76 and i'd just finished putting 16K into building a new engine, trans, axles, interior, and stereo system. Also did not have theft coverage so I took it in the rear. I ended up filing a casualty loss on my taxes that year which in turn threw a flag and got me audited but in the end I was found to be fine claiming my loss as I did which only netted me an extra 2K back on my tax return. :doah: I quickly learned that adding comprehensive to my insurance was the smartest thing i've done since then and doesn't cost alot to have.

Where was it when it was stolen?

While overall auto theft is down, theft from the home driveway or garage has jumped to whopping 43% of all vehicles stolen.

That's why I have Haggerty's.....but I couldn't replace it...I don't want to have to replace it...
not a comforting statistic for me...#1 most stolen vehicle in Alabama? Chevrolet Trucks
Most stolen vehicles in the nation...Chevrolets....Chevy Trucks #10 on the list...

Where was it when it was stolen?

It was stolen from right outside my 2nd story bedroom window. I was sleeping when all of a sudden I hear my truck start and I immediately jumped out of bed and called the cops then took a look out my window and seen the headlights come on and drive away, it was at 2:45am and my other car was at my parents house so I had no way of going out to look for it. The theif just busted out the driver wing window and hotwired it I suppose.

Stolen from a parking lot...probably some thief

Stolen from your driveway....high probability the thief was somebody you know...

My rig was parked on the street just under my bedroom window. I do believe that whoever stole my rig had been scoping it out for awhile. The reason I say that is because it had a TPI 350 chevy under the hood with AFR heads and a roller cam with headers and dual exhaust that was pretty loud when you drove it kinda normal but if you were very easy on the throttle you could keep it pretty quite and when the person drove off they did so as quitely as could have been telling me they must have known it was loud. Also because they never opened the hood to try and hotwire it also tells me they knew they needed to do their hotwiring from inside the rig.

I still keep an eye open for the rig to this day knowing i'll never see it again but to be honest the rig I have now is 10x's better than what they stole.

I'm also fairly certain that the rig was stowed away for a short period of time then taken to Mexico where alot of SUV's were being taken after being stolen and used as drug runners.

That stinks, especially when it was probably someone you knew.

Maybe someday it will show up.
