My first PSD was a 2000 F250 2wd 6 speed that I had almost problem free for 200,000 miles. Family got a little bigger so I sold it and bought a used 2002 F250 4x4 Crew PSD Lariat with about 130k back in October. I know the original owner and believe its still completely stock.

The problem I have is that its making a high pitched screeching noise when the engine is under load and the turbo is spooled up. Screech started out barely audible, but is getting louder. It has blown the passenger side intake off twice. Did it yesterday when I was pulling my 25' travel trailer. I searched thedieselstop and talked to a diesel mechanic I know and just figured the clamps on that intake were loose. Put it back on and tightened it up this afternoon, got on the highway with no trailer, hammered it and it blew off again?

Do I need a new turbo?

Edit. I don't know if this is related, but the truck has kind of lopey idle. Not sure if that's surge, but its been doing that since I bought it.

Is it blowing the hose off before the inter cooler or after it?

Just guessing here....could it be that the waste gate is not opening and the turbo is overboosting and pressure gets to high before the intercooler ???

Don't know much about fords...;)

Fords have problem with the EBP valve, and I found a couple vacuum lines off on the turbo pedestal. I'll try disabling the EBP and hooking those lines back up and see where it gets me.

Hose thats blowing is between the intercooler and turbo.

I find that once a turbo hose has blown off, it tends to blow off over and over again. Maybe it gets stretched, maybe something else happens, I dunno. I never have good luck reusing them once they have popped.

But then again, all the stuff I work on boosts to 35+ PSI.

I had the same issue with my 01 PSD. Had to replace the turbo hose. Once that was done I didn't have any more issues. Still don't know what caused the problem in the first place though.

I had a similar problem on my dodge diesel and it turned out to be a pin hole leak in one of the boots which made the whistling sound and caused the boot to unseat itself and blow the hose off. I replaced the boot and it was trouble free 'til i sold it.

We're talking the 6" blue rubber hose, right? think I'll pick a couple of those up tomorrow.

Ran it down the road after I unplugged the EBP, hooked the vac lines up and retightened the intake - it held for about 10 miles with me standing on it every chance I got. Will try replacing those short, rubber connecting hoses and hopefully that will do it.

Thanks for the help.

Hopefully thats it. Thanks for the reply.
