im lookin to buy a soft top for the summer,it wil be garage kept so not to worried bout rain, but down in sc in the summer we have alot of spur of the moment thunderstorms

so i was wondering what brands work the best,im at work sometime 10-14hrs a day so it be nice to have a reliable top that kept the rain out

I believe that the only soft top currently manufactured is the SoftTopper, http://www.softopper.com/ .

The good thing is that I can report, having just bought one myself, that they are good quality, fit well even on old trucks, and have reasonably good instructions. Haven't had it long enough to tell how it ages or how weather-resistant it is.

I second dremu, I just got mine and it is awesome, but not sure about the long term. The softopper is great quality and easy to install, I received it on a friday afternoon and had it on the way to a wheeling weekend on Saturday morning. My only suggestion is if you get the softopper brand, just take your time and line everything up right. But on a nice day, rolling up the sides and rear and rolling bimini style, can't beat it.

thanks guys ill be sure to check them out

when you roll the sides up do they secure pretty good,or do they flap around in the wind?

I've only had it up to around 45-50 mph with the sides up but I didn't notice any flapping at all

you'll get 10 years out of a soft top unless you stuff a tree branch through it or leave it out in the Mohave Dessert uncovered for about 5 years. Rolled up flapping not really so much they stay intact real well. Noise, you ain't gona hear much because for god's sake you got the top off and the wind whipping through your hair will block all those receptors from annoying noise. Just do it! --Get one! You will be STOKED

Does this top come with the rail system like on New style Jeep Wranglers, or is it the old button style?

Over on a jeep forum, this post here says that the "B-D" Company has purchased some of the STC patterns/equipment etc.
People there have actually gotten direct confirmation that indeed yes, they did.

Their website doesn't show any K5 products available, but reading thru the thread it appears the person they work with there is going with what might be in demand. Since none of us have heard of this company, perhaps they're just not aware of any demand?

Might be worth someone emailing them. Some guys on the jeep forum have even sent them their hardware and top for confirmation that what their making matches at least pattern wise what STC used to make, a good sign that the company seems to at least want to do stuff right. Seems the top material is a bit nicer too.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.

I just picked up a softtopper and the only problem I have is that when it rains, the hold down straps on the side soak up the water from the outside ... and transfer it to the other end of the strap which goes through to the inside. Therefore, if it rains a LOT the straps inside start to drip a little.

They include a bottle of "Seam Sealer" with it, which can help a little, but this particular issue can't be solved with the sealant. What they need to do is sew one strap on the outside, then a second piece on the inside, but I understand why they don't.

The sides don't flap, either down or rolled up, and I've taken it up to 70 mph. In fact, it's quite comfortable.

It's a great top.
