Came home to a notice that stated I had "2 weeks to fix my inoperable vehicle".

Well... My inoperable vehicle is my C/10.
The two weeks ends today.

I'm putting in the motor tonight, as per the plan.
But, this truck won't be running for another week, or two.
At the latest.

Can I ask for an extension?
Am I getting a ticket?

For the first 6 days of my 14 days, I was in Los Angeles.
So, there was nothing I could do.

I hate code enforcement.

if its city code just push it out and turn it around. they'll drive by to see if its moved and thats about it. HOA :dunno: never delt with one

Never dealt with it myself but I agree, move it so it appears to have been driven.

Sadly, chances are this came from a neighbor so you may not be able to fake your way out of it.

I've been through this a couple times, ( in Stockton) call the number on notice, explain your situation/timeline, they will most likely work with you & give you the time. But they may already be on their way, possibly with tow truck , so get on the phone! ! You already know this, but you shouldn't have waited until today.

In Seattle you can only leave the vehicle for 72 hours, then they give you a ticket and call a tow truck.

Unless it was a neighbor calling and complaining it was usually that they would chalk the tire for 3 days then put a bright orange sticker on the windshield letting you know that if it was still on the same block when they came back in 3 days that it was getting ticketed and towed.

Is it in the street or a private drive. If it's on the street move it, if in a drive I don't think the cops are/should be involved so it must be a HOA. Make the call to figure out who is doing it.

I forgot to say... It's in my driveway.
We do not have an HOA.
It's city code enforcement.

It's "probably" this guy that lives down the street that reported it;
But, the code enforcement and parking enforcement do come by from time to time.

It's really 50/50 whether it was him, or they saw it up on the jack stands and wrote the warning.

I don't think they have any right to tow it out of my driveway.
I think it's just ticket-after-ticket. :dunno:

I can't find fine info ANYWHERE. :doah:

Me and a buddy where just talking about this. If they enter the driveway it constitutes trespassing by constitutional law. The state can only enforce laws that are there to protect the individual and therefore can not institute/enforce laws that are greater that contitutional laws. So if states where allowed to make and enforce their own laws to protect the idividual tell me who has been hurt by your truck sitting in your driveway (i.e. murder, mugging, rape, theft, yada...) It's just the kinda crap open door they want to control the herd, trucks now what next.

I know it doesn't help but thought it was funny we where talking about the same kinda thing. Roll it to the other side of the driveway.:dunno:

Move to another state. Yeah!!!!!!

does it have current tags on it? otherwise they canrt say its inoperable really. its not against the law to repair your own licensed/insured vehicle on your own property. or how long you have to make said repairs. if there is.... yeah.. move:doah::haha: being cali.. id move anyway:waytogo:

We had to deal with code enforcement before. Back when we lived in Jerseyville we had a big open are under some trees behind the garage, and we had the 94 12V Cummins back there and we got two notices on it. One while we had it back there, and one after we drove it up next to the house.

Then after that my dad caught the guy "inspecting" the truck and he tried to talk his way out of it, but he eventually got back in his truck, (which he parked in our driveway) and left, never to come back.

My understanding of the law (we are in the same county) is that an unregistered vehicle cant be left on the sidewalk, as far as the driveway there should be no reason for them to have given you that notice. Another thing, is it registered? If not it might be a good idea since you are so close to finishing it. Is your house a rental or do you own? If its a rental there could be some fine print the land lord stuck in there or something.

Maybe just wait for this said tow truck and ask to see said law you are violating and have the cops on speed dial. This had happened to me about 10 years ago with a car that was given to me, I was selling it and was to poor to pay the reg so I left it on the sidewalk and got flagged then I moved it to the driveway and never had any issues after that.

Here in San Jose, I got the same notice, it's a city ordinance code, not state... Vehicle must be in your name and operatable if its in the vicinity of the public street. Doesn't have to be registered unless its parked in the street and 72 hour rule on the street, but driveway it can stay there forever in your name at that address. It must be able to move under its own power forward and back for a couple feet to be legal nothing else has to work. My roommate just went thru this recently and the city guy showed up to verify before issuing a fine because he complained.

My rig was missing the front axle so I had to tow it to a buddies house in gilroy where there are no such city ordinances to avoid a fine to the homeowner.

It's not currently registered, but you can't tell unless you walk up my driveway and look.
As its parked backwards.

I think there is a loophole here.

The code says you cannot "store" inoperable vehicles,
But you can "work on the vehicle, to repair it". :deal:

Which is what im doing.
Right?

"The engine went bad, I fixed it... Now it's going back in."

I called the ticket writer, and left a polite message.
We'll see what happens.

I have a three day rule in my city and didn't know it. Didnt help my truck wasnt inspected at the time either. They showed up with a tow truck and my blazer was too big for it. I came out of my house when I heard the chains come out. They couldn't get it up the ramp. Lol. Ended up Paying a tow charge even though they couldn't get it on the truck and cop said get it off the road. So I moved it to private property and didn't have to worry after that. On private property it still is supposed to be registered or covered so they can't tell if it is or not. They do the same thing here every summer doing a spring cleanup of inop vehicles in township city lines. Anything that doesn't move in three days or is not registered from the time they ticket it and they come back and tow it from private property if it is close to a public road. It's bs but its legal for them to do it here. Township passed it by majority vote.

Me and the "ticket lady" had a talk.... :deal:

Went essentially like this:

Me- "By legal definition, 'inoperable' needs to be proven."

Her- "yes. It was."

Me- "how?"

Her- "the vehicle was on stands... And, the registration is out of date."

Me-
"well. Temporarily disabled, I.e., on jackstands, is NOT 'inoperable'.
It is in a state of repair. Temporary repair... So how have you proven 'inoperability'?"

Her- "umm..." (Flipping FURIOUSLY through a book.)

Me- "and also, if you had no cause to be on my property, I.e., the fact that you have yet to prove the vehicle doesn't operate; How is it legal for you to have walked onto my property, and up my driveway, long enough to run my tags... You did RUN them right? To assure the sticker wasn't just out of date?"

Her- "..." *dead air*

Her- "the vehicle should really have tires on it..."

:haha: :haha: :haha:

Apparently, they think it runs, now.... :haha:

Not sure if this is just a city thing where I live but at least here in Fremont you CANNOT keep a vehicle in your driveway if it isn't currently registered. You also cannot keep it in your backyard unless it is completely hidden from public view even from a neighbors house window in their backyard. It is also not legal to work/repair your vehicle in your driveway it must be done in your garage with the garage door closed.

^^^ a lot of city's have limits on how long it can be under repair, even if your allowed to work on it in your drive.
