Any 'Code Enforcement' experience?.... [Some people.]

And they call this a "free country"?........

My parents were right--we ARE being dictated too,and every day we become closer to becoming a communistic country..too many frigging laws, passed by too many people with nothing better to do than think up ways to charge us money to pursue "happiness"...

I ran into this some years ago in the Army when I was at Fort Bragg. Our motor sergeant had a house off post where all the guys would work on their trucks. At any given time there were generally between 4 and 5 vehicles in various states of modification and repair. A city inspector came by and told us we couldn't have inoperable vehicles within view of the street, but he seemed more concerned in making sure we weren't running a shop without a business license... Nothing ever came of it.

here I can leave a car in my back yard for as long as I want as long as its licensed and insured. but I got a parking notice / public nuisance ticket for parking a licensed/ insured pickup truck in my front yard for 30 minutes while I jockeyed some stuff around in the drive to put it there:doah:

They stopped by.... :haha:

The wheels where on it, the truck was on the ground.
All is now good. :D

Although.... I need to get the reg straightened up.

Oh... And guess what.... Inoperable vehicle storage is a $900 fine!!!

F*CK THIS STATE.

So out of curiosity, what's the rules then if you are like me and have a boat, rv trailer, enclosed job trailer, utility trailer, and 2 project vehicles around. I mean everything is licenced and insured and gets used regularly and the projects aren't like up on blocks or anything and do move. I bet they would lose their minds when the sheriff told them to bugger off.

That or they would need a new ticket book.

I don't usually have these issues, tbh.
I think it was the non-stop working on my C/10, at all hours of the day;
Combined with various vehicles getting things fixed, at my house.

Like I told the lady.
I'm not running a shop, I'm just fixing my truck and helping my friends out.

Sh*t happens.... I deal with it.
She's just doing her job.

You want a little giggle... :deal:

The code enforcement lady asked me about a small pile of firewood, on my sideyard.
It's stacked, like a fence, and has stones on top to keep the stray cats from tearing it up.

She asked, "You know this isn't supposed to be here, right? Why's it here?"

I replied,
"The (annoying, illegal, Mexican) neighbor has a Rooster...
It gets out from time-to-time, and tears up our yard."

She wrote the rooster thing down...
Wonder where she's going next...? :haha:

I fought the city twice at our old house for having two tires on the driveway and two tires on the grass. It wasn't even the city's strip of grass by the street, it was our grass up and around the house and flower beds.
They said no vehicle can be parked on an "unimproved" surface. Has to be gravel/cement/asphalt basically.

I drove it every day and the grass was always green and mowed/edged but they didn't care. Never did pay any fines though, I called and told them I refused and never heard from them again.

Sometimes I think they just profile houses that look like they'll pay and take a shot hoping the people don't want to fight and just send in the money.

Damn. I travel a lot for work so I've been to Cali a few times, but you don't really get the feel for living there. I'm still a Bama boy at heart. I wouldn't make it there based on the stuff I've seen on here. I like Southern politics. Plus, although I do have an HOA, our city ordinances are something like:

1. If your neighbors dog comes on your property to harm your livestock/pets, warn your neighbor. Next time shoot the dog.

2. No discharging of firearms or explosives after dinner time. Kids are sleeping.

3. Don't let your kid drive on a main road until he can see over the steering wheel.

4. Firing warning shots at cars with Obama/Dem stickers falls under the responsibilities of neighborhood watch.

and more relevantly...

5. Only grannies and single moms go to the jiffy-lube. Working on your car is expected. Jackstands show that you are safety-conscious and but a blue tarp over it means the vehicle is abandoned.

You get the jist. I think I'll keep below the Mason-Dixon, myself.

Fremont was pretty bad. I'm glad i got outa there. Folsom is better, but after i moved, i got some visits from the Code enforcer. They weren't too happy with the number of vehicles i had all over the place. He was pretty cool though. Mostly concerned that i was running a shop, which i wasn't. He informed me that all the vehicles in public view had to be running and in my name. They could be non-op'd, but had to be running. If not they had to be out of public view. After i parked the K5 in the back and moved the sidekick shell outa my driveway, they stopped bothering me.

That's what I told the lady....

"I try to be as safe as possible, put my truck up on jack stands, and this is what I get." :haha:
