Any difference?

Tom Woods wants a $400 core charge for the shaft of my existing 241 unit. But in the end, price looks fairly similar. Is a flange 1350 my only option for 1350 CV driveshaft too?

I can't give feedback on what is better but I want to give you a heads up on a situation that i had.

It's been almost ten years so I don't recall exactly but I believe I bought the JB SYE with 1350 flange for my 241 directly from tom woods along with my shaft. I believe I had a real slow leak or something out of the tail and the problem was that one or the other never shortened the flange/yoke the 1/4 inch or whatever it was. I called Woods and they said JB was supposed to cut it and JB said Woods was supposed to. Like I said I don't remember exactly what the situation was but nobody checked or cut the flange like they were supposed to. I took it to my local machine shop and they cut it for me and never had a leak again. Just make sure if it is supposed to be cut, that someone does it.

I have a 208 SYE from TW.
My 241 has a JBC SYE.

I know the 208 has a cut down shaft and tail cone.
My 241 has a new tail cone set up and a driver's side drop cut down shaft. The the shaft is actually slightly larger than the passenger side drop original.

I bought both with flanges. There's nothing wrong with flanges, I prefer it since the U-joints stay captured with the drive shaft.

Neither one has leaked, though I have many more miles on the JBC set up.

OK great. So it sounds like there really isn't too much of a difference between the two. Just mainly the price I can get for the combined package at Woods vs. getting a driveshaft here locally (with JB unit).

4WheelParts told me he could get pretty much any CV driveshaft for about $300. I questioned it and said is that with 1350 joints and all. He said they are all about the same price (1310 vs 1350) so $300 was a good number.

Jeff, I'm prototyping some SYE kits right now. I could supply a SYE kit or a T-case with SYE kit for pretty cheap to see how it performs. I don't currently have a vehicle up and running to test it on. You would have to get a yoke and shaft done locally (or there's a great guy in Denver) Give me a call if your interested. 413-522-6764

$300 is about the going rate locally for a custom cv. 63chevyII just got a sweet one out of denver.

Geoff, thanks for the offer. My 16 year old daughter drives it so it would have to be 100% reliable. I'm not driving it regularly so I can't do much trial and error stuff. I have to keep her safe. With that said, can you tell me about it and what the difference would be compared to Woods or JB? You can PM me if that's easier. Thanks man!

What "length" SYE are you prototyping? VSS ('90-91) configs? For some reason JB doesn't offer their "super short" SYE in the passenger drop config. Not enough demand?

For the shorter trucks (K5) it would seem to me that every bit of shaft length you can get is a good idea to help out with angles.

$300 for a CV 1350 shaft? Not my experience. HAD just told me theirs start at $550. Rack and Axle in Phoenix said $350 for a 3R CV shaft.

The TW SYE I got for my 208 seemed well done, but it is simply a cut down cone and mainshaft. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but it doesn't seem like there's a lot to it for anyone with the right tools. One nice thing about getting the kit through TW is that you give them the measurements for your existing setup and they will get the driveshaft the right length up front. Otherwise you'd probably have to install the SYE, then measure for the custom shaft.

That's good to know. I thought I might have to install the SYE kit into the t-case and then mount. They do the driveline measurement. Because of this, I bought another low mileage 241 for $100, to pull the shaft out and send prior to purchase so I didn't have to foot the $400 core charge. As a bonus, the new tcase has about 140k on it so hoping the wear inside would be less than my current unit.
