Any draw backs running the 52"/56" combo

Im wanting to run the 52" stock springs in the front and the 56" w/shackle reversal in the rear of my 91' K5. I'm running 42" swampers w/ a d60 and a 14 bolt w/ detroits. I realize I'm going to have to trim. Any draw backs? What do the 56"springs come on? Any help would be cool.
 
The front spring hanger on mine (52's) limits my approach angle a little bit.

Longer, softer springs wrap easier than shorter ones.

52's and 56's are well proven and work well in general.
 
The only downside I see to 56's is the wrap. Throw a anti wrap/ traction bar on there and your golden to do wheel stands (not really :) )

As far as the 52's up front theres alot of things that need to be upgraded at the same time. You need a good long travel shock, 12" or 14" wont cut it without straps.

You'll need a long slip driveshaft, and crossover steering.
 
Yeah. Big Problems. You rig gets all sorts of suspension travel with those 52's and you start crawling over huge rocks and dont even know it if you're not paying close attention.
 
There wont be any front driveshaft issues, just need longer slip. I'm running a 1410 on the 60 and a 1350 superflex joint on the tcase to give me some more angle. works just fine.
 
Yes you. Now back to my original post if you are running an SM465/NP205 you WILL have driveshaft issues. The front shaft is already really short, add lots of suspension droop and it will bind.

That is correct.

With the stock shaft the c/v binds

High Angle Driveline 1ton C/V shaft still binds but suspension travels a little farther before it happens.

High Angle Driveline 42 degree shaft no more binding but now pulls apart at the slip. The c/v is so big and much longer than the 1ton c/v. so you are not able to run a long slip shaft in it.

My solution was to install a doubler to lengthen the driveline. Not done yet but looks like it will work great.
 
i used the stock cv, clearanced with mine on a square shaft and it worked fine. the next setup i will use is d60 yokes with a flange, and long slip splines.

the cv joint takes up too much length.
 
Thanks for all the feedback guys. It looks like axle wrap is my biggest threat. It seems like I read someone was having problems w/ the rear axle hitting the gas tank? Also any Idea what kind of lift I will get front and rear?
 
you need to start seaching for "52 swap" . you'll roughly gain 4-5" on the front depending on the condition of the springs. in the rear, you won't gain lift just going with longer springs. most people do a shackle flip.

with 1410's and tom woods super flex joints with no CV, long slip, you arn't going to have binding issues. You can make a superflex and 1410s have nearly 45deg angle b4 binding.

Hijack: how do you like the superflex joint? I have a 1410 sf joint on order. My shaft is only allows about 2 inches of down travel before it starts to bind. Does it vibe bad?
 
it hasn't broke yet, so until it does, i'm a believer. I dont drive it on the street except for around the neighborhood when I'm bored so I couldn't really tell ya about vibrations.
