Any GM mechanics???Need help w/ 99 Monte Carlo

Damn, that is weird that the intake was cracked in different places. Ive resealed a crapload of those intakes at work and have not seen that. Do you drive this car or does a woman (or someone els) who would not tell you if it was overheated? I am fearing that the intake may be leaking, but that the heads could have been damaged w/ that much overheat. Once you have the intake off its nothing to do the heads. I think it would be a good investment to remove the heads while you are this far along, right? I understand that the intake is leaking, but its not leaking like a faucet. So, why would the car overheat or pressurize so quickly w/ just a small leak.

I say pull the heads and have a machine shop look at them. If you dont, you may just be doing the intake again w/ the heads.

Sorry

My bad, I meant the intake gasket was cracked in four different places, actually it came out to be five different places.

My fault for the typo, its almost put all back together though so hopefully it works (fingers crossed)

Ok got everything hooked up and now the car will not stay running:mad:

When it starts it jumps to about 3000 RPM's then drops real low to about 500 for a second or so trying to run, but really rough, then it just dies:confused:

Plug wires have been triple checked to make sure they hooked up in the correct order and snug, and cannot find any loose electrical or vacuum connections, everything seems to be hooked up.

Also, there is a real strong smell of fuel after it dies

I have personally left the booster line off on more than one occasion, and it does that.

The booster line is definitely hooked up, I can't figure it out, its got to be something because it ran fine before, but I can't find it ........:angry1:

Ok just borrowed a scan tool from autozone and am getting code p0650-Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) control circuit

I have no idea what that means:confused:

Sounds like you have an injector oring leaking to me. Did you pull the injector rail out of the intake? I'm pretty sure you have to. Its a vacuum leak for sure since the car idle shoots way up. It then dies because the vehicle cant control the idle/fuel correctly. Double check your injector orings and also look at the upper plenum to make sure that there is no residual gasket that may be doubled up. Its going to be something simple:wink1:

The malfunction indicator lamp code means that the computer can not controlt he MIL correctly (check engine light). The MIL should come on w/ the key on and engine off for a bulb check. If it doesnt, the bulb could be blown or the circuit from the PCM to the MIL may be open.

Alright found it, it was the vacuum line from the pcv valve that goes over the manifold right behind the throttle body and back behind the coil pack into some canister.

Then part over the manifold was missing the grommet so it was not sealing, now it is working, Now I just hope all this work fixes it, I will post up what happens

Thanks for all the help on getting me through this

Ok

Alright not sure whether or not to be happy yet.:ears: Just got back from the test drive and the temp was good, :Dbut have one leak to fix on the metal bypass line that comes out of the side of the manifold next to the thermostat housing:doah:

Also it still puffed some white smoke, :what:but I am hoping that it is residual because there was water in there when I pulled the intake off and I haven't got an oil change yet :ignore:(fingers crossed yet again)

I hate this car

Ok changed the oil, but the car is still overheating:angry1:, has to be a blown head gasket, warped heads or something then. Any recommendations on what to do?:ears:

Should I go ahead and pull the heads off, have them checked out and replace the head gaskets?

Try to sell the car, but for how much?:dunno:

Or has anyone ever heard of this stuff or know anyone who has tried it by chance www.steelseal.com?

Not to say I told you so, just dropping advice:wink1:

Yeah, I know, I just wish I would've gotten that reply before I had already had everything almost back together:doah:

Ok heads off!!!!

Alright, so I got the heads and these are my findings, the rear cylinders are full of water:eek1: and the front has water but a considerable amount less:confused: as seen in the pictures below, the ones with a lot of water are the rear cylinders.

Also if anyone can, can you point out to me where the gasket is possibly blown:dunno:, because the only thing I can see is the oversized hole:crazy: on the rear gasket to the right in the pics.

Got Heads...

Ok just got back home from the machine shop with the heads, had them pressure checked, leak checked, and resurfaced, so they are good:wink1:

Now have to put it all back together....:doah:

Alright!!!!!!!!

Just got back from the test drive and the temp went to just above a 1/4 of the way up the gauge and never moved:D and I ran the car for about 45 minutes including driveway time and the temp was perfect!!!:saweet:

As for the negative there was some smoke coming from the back of the motor:what:, but I could not find where it was coming from, but by the time I came back from the test drive it was gone:thinking:, so I am hoping maybe it was something spilled back there, I hope......:dunno:

Also I did change the oil before starting, but was wondering when I should change it again...100 miles, 500 miles....???:dunno:

And thank all of you who helped me through this, I couldn't have done it without your help:bow::bow::bow:

Congrats!!

Sounds like you are in good shape. The smoke was probably coolant or oil residue that burned off the exhaust. I would change the oil immediately after doing the heads even if you already have. All kinds of small particles get in there even if you are careful. Another oil change is small price for a little insurance;)
