Hey fellas been awhile since I was on.

Have a 99 tahoe with the push button 4x4

Stuck in the mud it got put in 4lo

Now it wont come out

Go through the shifting ritual and all you get is clicks from the box in the dash and no shift action back to 2hi or 4 hi

I need help bad fast.

My buddy has the exact same truck, same year and all. He had this same problem, he had it in 4 lol off-road one time, it got stuck and wouldn't shift back to 2. It was the transfer case actuator motor. We replaced it and all is well, haven't had the problem since.
PS- you should be in 4 high in the mud.

Another thing I just thought of to tell you. Check your fusebox on the driver side of the dashboard, have to have driver door open to see it, there's a couple fuses for the TCase in there, they are labeled, check them all, had another buddy that had the same problem in his 99 suburban and it turned out the transfer case fuse was blown.

Okay okay I was assuming encoder motor just needed to hear it from someone else too i guess and checked the fuses instantly when it happened and all is well there the control box clicks but nothing clicks as usual down under. Sadly its the 99-02 about the only style tcase I dont have in the yard. Was hoping to spare the $150

it started as a steep down hill descent across some rocks and got to the end over a little raise front tires went over and sunk by the time i was ready for 4hi it was too late. My swampers instantly dug the front in.

RIDDLE ME THIS THEN ....
1996 2500 6.5 turbo 4l80e push button t case 4x4 just up and quit

No blown fuses no visible broken wires

Have replaced switch in tcase and front actuator
Buttons just flash and stays in 2hi.

brother said he had no power to front actuator when checked.

Sometimes something just binds up, so work a bit on the premise that the actuator isn't dead, just weak. (You have to have the transmission in neutral, just in case you didn't know that.) Sometimes moving the truck a few inches, back to neutral and then trying again can help things align right. You can also try shifting with the truck just barely rolling.

Ive tried it all on both it seems.
rhe tahoe is for sure rhe encoder motor I guess ill find out sunday or so but the 96 4x4 problem really has me stuck thinking it can only be the tcase control box.
