Hello all,
Long time stalker, first time poster…
Have a quick question about removing the doors on my 1st Gen.
Are there any problems with taking the doors and top off & driving it around town & some light 4X4 trail type stuff? I was also thinking about putting a net tail gate to really open things up...
I have done a few searches and all I can determine is that there may be some problems getting the doors to line up properly when you try to re-install them.

Any advice would help.
Thanks
Dave

yep line up coud be a problem but you might just have to jack up areas of the rig to get things to line back up. The top and doors do provide a little structural strength to the vehicle so you might hear it creek and pop. But as long as you dont do any crazy flex it will be fine.

Same thing with the tailgate off.

Thanks for the info. I'll get some pics posted of what I am starting with and with my build plan and different phases for this project. I'm sure I have some things backwards. For now I just wanna get it out on the road / off-road.

Thanks to everyone in advance.

I think I'd do a little inspecting of the underside before I drove around without the doors and top. See how the body mounts look - if they are worn out, which they probably are, I'd recommend replacing them first. Also check out the torsion boxes - if they are shot you really need to address that before yanking the top. Then yank the top and enjoy!

Modified your quote YJ, hope ya don't mind.

Also be sure to install some sort of side view mirror when you pull the doors too.

If the tub is in poor shape & the torsion boxes are even worse or gone altogether,... thing's will definitely get outta shape on you.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I did pull the top off over the weekend and did a little 4 wheelin which turned a bit heavier than I thought on the very first outing.. At that point was very happy I chose to leave the doors on.

Getting ready to get the Tub Rhino lined. Any prep ideas??

If your mounts look like this, be very concerned, these were the only two that weren't powder.
