Any Probs using 3\" spring perch?

Do yall see any problems using 3" wide spring perch? Reason I ask is, I want to make my own, and the local metal shop doesn't sell 2.5" boxed tube in 1/4". They do sell 3" though. Let me know if yall see any problems in this.

only problem I see is not being able to tuck your u-bolts right up against the spring pack.thats why they run the same width as your springs. unless you went wider and then drilled for the u-bolts to pass through..Just my .02

Can you turn it the other way? Like, get the same width as however long the perches are and cut 2.5"?

<font color=blue>Mabye if you got 4" you could drill holes and pass the u-bolts through? Or better yet weld nuts to the bottom of the perch before you weld it to the housing and have regular bolts going in from the top? Then there would be nothing under the housing

I know that you can get 2 1/2 "X 1/4 because I just got some the other day from the scrap yard here in town. Let me know if you want me to send you some.

I guess you could, but seems to be more work than it's worth. Cause I'll have to box it up again and then cut it.

Gray,
The idea sounds good, but not sure how strong it can hold the springs down when all that flexing and stuff is done. Probably have to constantly retorque it down, etc.

Yeah, I know they're out there, just my supplier doesn't carry them...worthless...aint the only size they Don't carry that I needed. I think if you shipped them, the cost would be a little much. They're heavy mofos. Thanks for the offer though bud.

Even I got 1/4 wall 2.5 x 2.5!!

What about biggray's first suggestion? Get maybe 2x4 or 3x4 1/4 wall &amp; drill holes for the u-bolts to come up through tight to the sides of the spring. That would probably be an even beefier setup!
