Pulled a turbo 400 np205 out of an 86 cab and chassis. And there are 3 half inch head bolts going into the case midway back and they are siliconed over? Trans bell housing is stamped hd. Is this some oddball gm junk?

Pics?

The "HD" is not uncommon, some also had numbers cast on the bellhousing. These are heavy duty cases that use a thicker converter cover. Cases like this started around '78-'79.

Never seen silicones bolts like described from the factory.

perhaps more secure attachment for the center support???

Thanks for fixing the link. And replys. Does anyone know if this shares common parts with a th400 I just picked up a Trans brake and was going to go through this Trans and install it. But will it work?

That looks like it has been modified to me, the bolts probably go into the center support, but I don't think this was ever done from the factory and is a leak path. Take a picture of the ID tag.

From what I see so far I would probably avoid that case. It does appear to be a 4WD case based on the extra converter cover holes near the bellhousing but those siliconed bolt holes have "run" written all over them. You might get some good internal parts, maybe.

Someone added those to secure the pressure plate in the case for the intermediate (second gear) clutch pack. It is not uncommon for the pressure plate to break the lugs out of the case in high pressure set ups, rendering the case useless. I would pop that thing open and have a look inside before I passed it over, if the case lugs are still in place for the retention of the snap ring those holes could be easily welded closed.

I believe (was awhile go) that had happened to me, and the shop had me get a new case. If i would had only know about the redneck fix! Damn!
