I read a post somewhere, dunno if it was here or at FSC. I'm trying to figure out how to swap in a 454 in a 92 Blazer and keep the TBI. I don't know what ECM is in the 92, but what searching brought up it's not the common 7747 unit. Not gonna run the 700r4, which isn't computor controlled anyways, but what the other stuff to work. The 89 was a plane jane, and the Blazer is a loaded Silverado. Has the gauges and tach instead of idiot lights, which I want to work. So, how would I get all this to work???

Last I knew you just needed the correct chip for the computer. Not sure about the fuel pump and such.

Damn, now I can't remember the name of the site...there's a guy who knows TBI stuff like the back of his hand...has all kinds of build recipes and custom burns chips for TBI motors...

...nevermind, here it is:
http://www.tbichips.com/

That was the site, couldn't remember it for some reason...

As for fuel pumps, they are the same, don't have to do nuttin'!!!!

Yeah, I think the problem was that the 454 trucks all (?) ended up with 4L80E's starting at least as early as '91, and I know for a fact the ECM's were not '7747's with the 4L80E's, even in the R/V style trucks, since the '7747 wasn't setup to control the trans.

If you are swapping a 89 454 into a 92 Blazer All you should need is a custom chip deleting the trans functions and related stuff. Get your ECM # and call 0r email Brian at tbichips.com he will fix you up.
You will also need an adaper wire for the IAC and possibly the TPS. Can get those from Turbocity. Or you can rewire the proper connectors on. Be sure to solder connections and use shrink wrap.
Everything else from the 350 TBI will plug in.

If it helps any...in 91 the V series that got the 4L80E actually had a special "stand alone" computer system for the tranny since the old style trucks didn't have the computer stuff to control the trans with the fuel injection.

The only standalone 4L80E controllers were on the diesels. The 454/4L80E combo's got the "PCM" if you will, powertrain control module, which handled the engine as well as the transmission.

I didn't want to buy anything or have any serious mods done, right now I don't have alot of money to be spending on this. Found out that the ECM is 6299, 92 only and guess nothing will change with it. Figures.

I'm suspecting the 6299 isn't cheap either, if you don't have a core?

I know fairly early on there seemed to be changes to the 4L80E every year or so, seems a bit odd though that the ECM needed to change between 1991 and 1995. You checked part numbers somewhere like Napa for those years?

According to Napa, 1228747 and 16147060 were both used in 1991 and 1993. (and thus presumably 1992)

Not saying Napa is correct, but GM should be able to tell you as well. Napa didn't break it down by transmission, but I disn't see a '6299 number in '91, '93, or '95

I find a '6299 here, but it's not for a 4L80E application: http://www.cruzers.com/~ludis/c3xref.html#16146299

I think NAPA is wrong though, I don't see any of their numbers listed as being 4L80E apps, either that or they just don't carry them.

I don't need to worry bout the tranny, TH400 doens't need nutting' but a vacuum line. Gonna look around some more, see what I can come up with.

Is it possible to swap just the ECM, not the harness?? I don't see why not, since there other trucks with the same setup as mine.....

It should be, the possiblity exists that you might end up re-pinning the entire ECM connector. That's really the only major difficulty with doing what you are suggesting...if GM changed the connector. Probably fairly unlikely, but you'd just have to know.

Thunder has it nailed (both wiring and programming)...Brian can probably just get you a PROM from a manual trans truck the same vintage and be done with it.

Think I'll give him call, maybe an email, I know he is busy. Hopefully it won't be too much a PITA. I can have the truck running/driving by this weekend.....

Well I found out some good news. All I have to do is swap the 7747 into the 92, the harness's are the same, just need to swap a couple of connectors.

Also found out bout my S-10 with the stupid Vortec CPI, that I can swap that over using a 93-95 full size truck ECM and harness. Dont really need the harness as I can modify the S-10s, only thing I think was the injectors themselve. Cool part was about the 400 that I want to put in it. With the Vortec heads, RPM intake w/TBI adaptor, CC Xtrme 268, 454 TBI, the motor will make around 400 horse and 450 ft/lb of torque. This would make a fun 4wd Blazer!!! Would have lots of fun smoking the 33s off and smoking rice rockets!!!
