K5: Because size DOES matter
Assuming you're putting them in the front lower corners, 6 1/2's may not fit. My 5 1/4's are nearly touching the internals for the windows, and they are as far forward and down as they can get without crunching the grilles in the doorjamb. I have power windows, so that may make a difference. I used some foam speaker cups from Crutchfield to ensure the speakers don't get wet from the backside.
Power windows do mak a difference. We installed 5 1/4's in my buddy's 85 Blazer without power windows, no problem. But when we tried it on my 87 with power windows it would not work.
If speaker depth is the only problem add a baffle board. Pick up some 1/2" MDF, cut out a ring that will lift the speaker out of the door a little bit. If 1/2" isn't enough to clear the mechanicals get 3/4" or whatever size it is you need. The speaker will stick out a bit but it'll fit. And if you want to get really fancy you can angel the speakers up to get a better soundstage but I'm guessing thats not a big concern
