Anybody have the instructions for the ORD steering box brace?

I bought a used ORD steering box brace that didn't come with the instructions. Can anyone give me the torque specs for the various bolts? I figure the box ends get whatever the factory spec is but the rest...?

It's for the version that fits the 89-91's.

I don't recall a torque figure right now, but does it have the nylock nuts with it?
If so I would just tighten them about 40#.

Not sure, it's actually at my buddy's. Painted it this weekend. Should know soon though.

Just got it back.

Okay, how many nylock nuts should I have? I've got one that goes on the big bolt that goes through the crossmember in the center.

I've also got two small bolts that have nuts, two lock washers and two flat washers, and two longer bolts that I figure go through the "tubes" at the end of the brace. Those don't get nuts if I remember correctly...?

Just tighten them appropriately, with what you can put on a 3/8" drive ratchet.

Torque spec isn't critical. I would thread lock the bolts with non-permanent (blue?) Threadlock.

The cross member bolt gets a nylock if i remember correctly, the others as you described. Don't sweat over it, just go put it on :haha:

Also, on my 91, i want to think there was a dimple on the crossmember from something else that was where i needed to drill the hole.

Check the bolts in a few months, mine had gotten scary loose.

Should do it tomorrow night. Washed The Tracker tonight and we drop that off tomorrow after work for the recall work.

There were a gazillion bolts on both types of arresting gear I worked on in the Marines...EVERYTHING had a torque. I like to use the proper torque...it's a habit I have. Also been surprised how many times "that feels tight enough" was no where close.

Hoping it goes on easier than Big Ugly's did. Still, that only took a few hours and a drill.

The bolts holding the crossmember brace and the front small brace where they go through the frame as I recall

So you've got TWO nylock nuts? Have to look at mine tomorrow. It is for the late frame though. Good thing Ace is half a mile from here.

Definitely don't remember the 2nd on my kit....

If you email ORD, they will send you the instructions.

Nt sure about all the differences early to later but. Both the braces i put in only had one nylock, as stated its for the bolt through the x-member. The dimple Dhcomp is speaking of was a tapped hole for brake line hold down. Zim's pic is definetly somethin new to me. But also consider the later trucks had a factory brace that can just be reinstalled over the ORD brace. IIRC the factory brackets holes had to be slightly elongated so that the bolts are 100% straight through the bracket
