My buddy's wife's DD is a '98 Kia Sephia. 1.8L 4 cyl, auto trans, no AC, does have power steering. She threw a belt a few weeks back and he just finally got around to fixing it...

...only to discover what I believe is a tensioner is wobbly. The way he described it to me it's a pulley that is mid way between the crank/water pump and the alternator. It's not adjustable. Apparently the thing is very loose and he can just grab it and tweak it around. The belt he struggled to put on went flying as soon as he started the car.

Problem is he's in Lexington, KY and I'm in Traverse City, MI. I don't believe I've EVER seen under the hood of one of these.

Anybody know how this thing is setup? I'm betting the tensioner pulley is either replaceable or the whole thing mounts to the engine block in some way. Anybody know for sure?

Have one or something?

PM sent and thanks man!

Mmmmm...not really. Thanks though.

His doesn't have AC but I think that's immaterial. I'm wondering if there's a tensioner on there or if he's talking about the water pump pulley.

Wondering if that is removable? I noticed several on ebay and most had no pulley on them.

The pulley is removeable. There is no idler, the alt and p/s will adjust to tension. He probably has a bad wp.

Hrmmmm...have to talk to him about this.
