Couple of points.
The Fumes reference is to a member here called chevyfumes, who raises goats and about whom there are dark rumors about other goat related activities.
You may never hear from him hear again, he has painted himself into a corner and is not sure how to get out.
He recently posted his 29,999th post, and cannot come up with an appropriate post for the 30,000th one.
He logs on from time to time, but never posts. I suspect he is going to buy a membership under a different name and let everyone sweat for a while.
As for the 4runner, why not fix the actual problem instead of just replacing the front brakes?
When you pull the pads, if just one side is worn out, then you need to grease, carefully, the slides on the calipers.
But, the biggest cause of fast wearing front brakes, is misadjusted rear brakes.
If its shoes on the rear, the adjusters are either frozen, or its an automatic tranny and she never hits the brakes going in reverse to let them adjust.
If its four wheel disk, check and see if you are getting even wear on both sides. You may have a frozen caliper, or the proportioning valve may be bad.
Or trouble with the lines or master cylinder.
I doubt you have access to a braking force tester unless your state does inspections.
Just take it out on a hard packed dirt road and slam on the brakes when going about walking speed.
See if all four slide. If just the front ones slide, that is why you are replacing them so often.
