or any other light not meant for trucks? I have been looking for some lights that i can see a long ass distance, i found some metal halide landling lights for aircraft at around a million candlepower that are 12 volt also, but they are expensive... would it just be more practical to get some hellas like everybody else?

If you're doing the Baja 1000 and going 150 MPH on the straight away, then H.I.D.'s are the way to go.

Otherwise, Hella's are fine for 99.9% of most applications.

Yep, I've used them, they are great!!! I worked at an airport in highschool getting my pilots liscences, and an old airplane someone was parting out came thru, and he said I could have the lights for free... They're good for about 75 yards, superbright, cuz they've gotta hit the ground on final approach once you're about 30ft off the ground. Try and find some used, they're cheaper that way. oh, and they're super tough, they take rocks and bugs at 100mph, they're not gona have a prob on the trail...

where i live i cross really long stretches of desert thats just flat and its always nice to see further, not to mention blind people when they they are up to no good... do you have any pics of your setup scaryfast?

Been a long time since I've heard about using ACLs:D I know you can have heat problems with them if you mount them near anything rubber or plastic:laugh: They need metal housings, wiring should be protected.

They are super tough & bright, but make sure you get 12V ones not 24V. AS mentioned they need to be in a metal housing. They draw quite a few amps so make sure they are wired properly.

A set of Hella's with pencil beams and a set with regular beams will throw light as far as you can see at reasonable speeds. And they have no issues at all. just my $.02.

And be sure to cover them so they look like regular OHV lights. If CHP sees that they're ACLL, you'll be stopped right there.
Like was said earlier, most of the OHV-market lights are faster than you can run offroad.:wink1:
My $0.02, LightForce.

thoose baja light are exactly what i have waiting to go on my truck...they are very $$$ and if i hadnt scored them from a old man who didnt want them i would have them...he said he drove his truck through the desert one time and claims he could see up to 3 miles away...i dunno...i havnt hooked them up yet..

If you really want to throw light out a long ways get the Lightforce 240's. My buddy has them on his truck, and has a hard time using them because they throw light so far. He also has pencil beam KC's, and the KC's look like headlights in comparison. On his Suburban he has hella's and they do not even come close to the Lightforces. All the long haul truckers use the Lightforces up here so they can see the moose on the roads and have a chance to slow down on the ice. However, they are spendy.
