anybody use one of these carb to tbi conversion kits?

A good friend had a Howell kit on a 454 w/ decent cam and never had any trouble out of it. Iirc, he first had a Holley Pro Jection kit but took it off because of continual problems (not implying anything about the Commander kit).

ya i heard alot bad stuff about the projection kit, seems that nobody has really said anything bout the commander kit, is the howell kit programmable do you know? can i tune with a laptop or is jus bolt up,plug in and go?

I don't think the Howell kit is laptop tune-able. I believe they burn a chip when you buy it.

It's actually Dan Dibble, he used the system on his buggy.

If you like the holley one and want some tuning ability

It self tunes after you put the info of your motor, cam, etc. Then later you can go in and adjust the tune to your liking. The prob people had with the projection is it was all hand tuned with pots on the side of the controller. Big PITA. I read all the tuning directions on each then ended up with a carb cause I ran out of cash:confused: I still want one of these though.

no has said the big fact already for this guy.

the big nasty cam will make this a non fun job to get it to run right.

I run a decent size cam in my 454 and Howell said it was no big deal. Of course, I haven't actually done it yet.

You should keep looking at other fuel injection systems.Concider buying from someone local to you like Arizona speed and Marine. Look for something that can handle your cam specs like a OBD2. Don'twaste your time and burn any chips for a limited OBD1 system. It's old tech, might as well stick with the carb!
It make problems easier to deal with when you have someone who's close by who can physically see your rig.[and might have a dyno handy too.]
Howell Injection made my harness for my LS conversion and it turned out nice .I was happy with it. Too bad I can't say the same for thier tuneing abilities. I would not refer Howell to anyone. I have people I know who have thier Howell TBI systems for sale because they could never get the thing to run right. And speaking from experiance the tech service is piss poor at best.
Those jackoffs cost me about a $1000 dollors in tuning to fix what they screwed up. [Ya, I'm a little pissed at them, sorry for the rant.]
All I'm saying is do a little research on this before you buy.

for sure, that was mainly the purpose of this post. i havnt looked to much for other systems, but i figured if there was a decent system that works well with dirt and mud, somebody on here has it or had it....but ill keep my eye out for reviews for this commander setup before i get it.

I run Megasquirt. It can run anything from a weedwacker to a top fuel dragster. But this flexibility means there are many settings and lots of tuning to get right. It is ECM only, so you have to interface it with whatever EFI hardware you want to use.
