anybody use one of these carb to tbi conversion kits?

With the price on some of those TBI conversions wouldn't it almost be better to just go with a 6.2D swap?

Just fyi, Howell EFI offers a tbi kit for about $400 less.

That's not an apple to apple comparison though..

ya i heard alot bad stuff about the projection kit, seems that nobody has really said anything bout the commander kit, is the howell kit programmable do you know? can i tune with a laptop or is jus bolt up,plug in and go?
No tunable, it's a chip burn deal...

Anyone have any experience with these guys ???
I have been looking at their system.....

Search the web for some tech support stories...
I run Megasquirt. It can run anything from a weedwacker to a top fuel dragster. But this flexibility means there are many settings and lots of tuning to get right. It is ECM only, so you have to interface it with whatever EFI hardware you want to use.
That is one flexable aftermarket system and has great sucess nstories. The more I learn of them I will probably try one out next time I do an EFI swap...

By 6.2D you mean diesel right? If so, not everyone wants a diesel.

Oh, I thought there was a technical back-draw. I hate the cold starts in the morning and have contemplated a TBI, MPI or LS conversion but then have always wanted a diesel which I figured would put me at around the same cost, be more fuel efficient, more powerful, weather stoic and I could make my exhaust smell like french fries. :thumb:

I've been looking in to this one for another project. Have yet to hear anything good or bad about it. http://www.retrotekspeed.com/products/powerjection-iii/

Dam that is carb sexy!

Plus after dropping the big bucks for a crate big block and building the entire rig with gas in mind....it would not be cost effective to swap to diesel for the price of an EFI kit....

oh..... and small blocks and big blocks turn just a few more rpm's than a 6.2...

:D :waytogo:

I have used the Holley Projection units, both the two barrel (670 cfm) and the 4 barrel system.

These work quite well and are fairly reasonably priced.

Just bought a used 2 barrel unit for a SBC project, PAID $350

If you have some big DIGGERS its better in the mud if you are able to spin them to keep them clean.

The diesels will do it, but the little 350s will really get the RPM's up and going.

Sticking large tires on a diesel rig tends to put things out of its power range.

The 6.2 diesel is a slow engine with its MAX RPM at around 3400 RPM
These are low RPM High torque engines.

Torque is around 380 Ft pounds at around 1800 RPM

Could that be rectified with gearing? It might be a little extra load on the motor but a taller set of gears should be able to put some extra spin on those tires right?

Is that really the only "downside" to diesel wheeling or are there others? What about snowy/icy condition?

I've never used any but after talking to my race engine builder he told me that he was happy with how the FAST EZ injection works. He had only used it in street app so he couldnt speek to its off-road performance. I'm using the FAST for my build which is mainly a street pounder occasional weekend trail cruiser.
