anyone built their own run stand?

htanks man! those are some great pics. I'll most likely try and copy yours pretty close.
although I do like the idea of being able to bolt a tranny onto it as well, like in greg's design.

everything made out of 2" square tubing, yeah?

It's actually 1 1/2. You would be amazed how much Crap gets dumped at the scrap yards around here. I need better wheels tho.

Mine is high enough so I can run any full size header.

And I messed up the 1st go around. The radiator was lower than the engine.

I'll have to check it out and see what I can find at the scrap yards. take my cordless sawsall and go at it. :D

I worked in a Thermo King shop years ago.....we built an engine stand to break in the 4 cylinder diesels we built for resale.

we took a chevy 1 ton 4x4 front spindle and hub, fabricated an adapter to the flywheel to spin the hub and rotor, and had a disk brake caliper mounted on it.... we could load the engine by applying pressure to the caliper...that worked good for a while... :waytogo:

then we came up with the idea of using the engine to drive a hydraulic pump and pump fluid into a tank thru a gate valve instead....closing down the gate valve caused the pump to build more load....worked so good we could stall the little motors...:D
