anyone can help me out? found a needed tire but...

Are you guys sure it's just not an internet hoax? I get all kinds of goofy emails all the time of stuff like this. It just sounds too ridiculous to be true.

Yeah, it's true. Damn!!
We have two type of registrations, cars and trucks. A Blazer can be registered as a car or a truck. In my case I had bad luck since my Blazer was registered back in 1980 as a truck. It also ran as a company car, therefore. It was cheaper because at that time governmental fee was calculatet on displacement. You can imagine that in the early 80's nobody could seriousely own a 5,7 liter car. But as a truck the fee was calculatet on the load range. Quite cheap. And now they will ban all vehicles registered as a truck owned by private people, means not used as a company car. It will effect almost all Blazers, all vintage Military Trucks, many Vans have been registered like that. And it can also effect Jeep Cherokees, Voyagers, even Audi A4 touring. Those cars where especially registered as truck since many companies used them for sales men or as pool cars.... Government did not shout it out when they made the law. They simpley did it in silence...until recent, nobody took notice. And even the Oldtimer Clubs, car clubs and Austrian Car Assosiation (ÖAMTC and VCÖ) did not know about that, they say. Well, still you are allowed to own that car, have it registered and have your duties paid, but you are not allowed to drive it. That is most stupid law I have heared since UK Government banned all guns in private hands!

F**k I am very angry at the moment. What will these bastards do next...?!?

...and guys...do you know what is almost the hardest part? My little 3year old daughter...she loved the Blazer. She was crazy for it. She was talking about the "shebby" = chevy almost every day...she was always saying that she wants to drive in the shebby and driving in the grass (I sometimes drove a little off the road with my Landcruiser and we called it "driving in the grass"). Every time when we came to the garage where I worked on the Blazer, she wanted to see him...she often wanted to tough her shebby... she was so happy that her daddy owned such a big truck and now I had to explain to her that her shebby is not here anymore... she was very sad and she even went into the garage to see if her shebby is really not here anymore....damn that hurts most!

now I know why I haven't heard from you. You know I will help in any way I can. I get some pics on here for you.

Hi! Once again I very much appreciate your help! You must hate me already...:(

Is there a way you could claim it as a business truck? Like start a "business" and register it that way? Maybe you could start maybe a one-man landscaping business or something like that as a front in order to allow you to drive it. Just throwing out an idea...

If I were you I would find other people who are as angry as you are about the law and get together with them and speak out against it. That law is a bunch of BS :angry1: :angry1: :angry1:

On a side note...
I'm not sure about the rest of you guys here in the States, but my '73 Blazer is officially classified as a "station wagon".

Certainly I also thought about this option, but... the law makers are not stupid. They also state in the law that it must be reasonable. Means, you really have to have a good reason to use the truck as a company truck. In my case I could only use it as advertisement carrier, but what for? I do not have a company, nor products to advertise. Or for pulling trailers, or carrying load. Neither nor I have.

These bastards simply whant to get rid of all old 4x4 cars/trucks/suvs. I am passionated 4x4 driver and even with nowadays modern 4x4 cars like pick ups, Landcruisers, Cheyenne, Patrols, they find things to make our live difficult...very limited modifications allowed, no bull bars anymore, and so on...

My vehicle is considered a Passenger Vehicle in California for registration and engine changes as well as emissions. Not sure aboot other states.

Sorry to hear aboot your bad luck, maybe you can find one that is registered as a car.

Advertise for a company in the U.S like summit or something. or the place you work. by putting a few stickers on it. would the gov check on that at all.

advertise for the car clubs or something.

Use it for camping... there has to be some loop hole somewhere.
there always is. where can I find this law in its entirety?

did a lot of thoughts, to find a reasonable way to keep it but, I have so little time left for hobbies and so I could not spend the time chasing solutions. I had to find a fast solution. Selling my Blazer was the only one since I knew somebody already interested in it. He paid good money for it and he will use it as a business car since he recently established a business. He opened an Off Road Park. So he has a good reason. At the end he said, he will finis my project and keep the Blazer for me. If there is a way, I can have it back but...first to find a way to drive it legally...anyway, I want to wait and see how situation is developing. At the moment all Europe is in a CO2 emission hype...the really fighting against all bigger cars, especially 4x4 cars. I first want to see what else the bastards will do against us folks...I dont want spend a lot of money and then they again kick my ass.

Hey Austrian;

You have my deepest heart felt thoughts man. I know how much my Blazer means to me and what it does for me. You will be there with my rig where ever we go. It is a shame you couldn't of keep her by making a hauling lorry for others who can't drive theirs.

So sorry for your loss and what I said earlier about your daughter losing her sheby; DID bring a tear to me brother. God Bless and be strong.

American built trucks shouldn't qualify for the banning. End of story.

Well as expected our 'road tax' (read-possesion tax) went up to £400 a year in yesterdays Budget. Petrol went up another 2p a litre. The government seems to think that making themselves richer will help the enviroment!....... yeah right!
Everytime they talk about 'the most polluting cars' they blame 'gas guzzling 4x4s'. Most European 4x4s are 2 to 3 litre motors except things like Range Rovers which are 4.5 litre. So how do they figure these are more polluting than 3.5 litre Porches, 6 litre Bentleys, Jaguars, S class Mercs etc etc.

What a load of BS. At least they're not banning them here...yet!:mad:

sorry, have been off a while.

Yes, you are right. Nothing proofs that all the 4x4's are guilty for all the higher emissions but, 4x4's and SUV's are booming now and governments see the possibility to make a lot of money by that fact. Also here in Austria. The numbers of registrations of SUV's and 4x4 are increasing significant. And to make them the bad guy's the stupid folks are shouting and do not realise the lie behind it. Wel...legal robbery.

@gmc4cw

terrible sorry for all the mess I've caused!!...I think it is impossible to send the tire over here. So do you think I can try to resell it through ebay, pickup location?
