Anyone Converted Power Windows To Manual Windows Before?

oh, and this is one where I expect the older crowd to understand better than the young guys..

when i was a kid 95% of cars had manual windows... 95% of the cars I've owned had manual windows... heck, manual trannies outweighed auto's when i was a kid..
anyway, the numbers are the exact opposite the last 15, 20 yrs.. 95% of cars have power, etc.. it's all the younger generation has grown up with...

I have always had a manual crank windows be it my parents or my own personal vehicle. I just prefer the convenience of a power window for the other side.

i'm swapping my power windows to manual too. my blazer has three power windows; only one, the driver's side, barely works, and usually needs assistance to fully lower or raise the window.

You know, its strange. When I was growing up, I always wanted a manual window on any car that went in the woods.
The power windows on the old Lincolns were super slow, and I wanted to be able to get the window down fast enough to shoot at something.

Then one day my father came home with a new car that had power windows. He had tried to get manuals, but they did not have one.
But, he showed them to me, and we were delighted since they were faster than we could roll one down manually unless we really worked at it.

When I got my '79, it had manual windows, which I was fine with. For a while.
But every time I turned around, someone was getting out of the truck and leaving the passenger side window in the wrong position.

Down in cold weather or up in hot. Several times I looked into a conversion for the passenger side at least, but never did.
My '89 came with power, and I love it. I did have to replace the drivers side motor after about 20 years, but the new one is going strong.
Would not go to manual for anything.

Plus, in my car, I rolled a coyote with my .22 that I would not have gotten a shot at with manual windows.
He came screaming across the road going to my farm doing about 40. I saw him, slammed on the brakes, spun the wheel to get the window lined up for the shot with one hand, while I hit the down button for the power window on the way to the rifle between the seats.
By the time I got the car turned and the gun up, the window had gone down and I nailed him just as he got to the treeline.

Try that with manual windows!:D

This is my next project on the suburban. I'm down to only 2 working windows in my Suburban.

im guessing for the locks you just remove the wiring and stop using it, lol.

problem is my drivers side lock, the part where the key goes in, is connected to nothing.. so i need to figure out how to fix that, then the power locks go as well.

I've done it to a few rigs... Never had good luck with power windows...

Then there's the window that everyone knows to never roll down and sure enough the one person that's never been told sits in that seat... Everyone in the rig yells at the same time,"Don't roll that dooooown"... Damn, to late...:haha:

I love the power everything in my wifes car... In my trucks??? Nope...

Power windows in a square body blow goats. dirtygoats!

Wasn't it the rear passenger in your burb that was the,"Don't roll that doooown" window???

This is in no way an admission of ever being the one to touch the shiny button...:D

Why yes, yes it was

We should have named you "Spot" that day, you wouldn't keep your phucking head in the window.

I think your wagging tail got to these two as well...

This is how your morning started...

That was a great snow run...

So, to keep this on topic... The moral of the story is to swap out those non working electric window regs for the roll em up type... That way your drunk friends can hang out the window all day...:D

hahahhah... thats redneck as **** man!

Naw, thats not redneck. Thats just good driving and shooting. Redneck is when I come around a curve in the 250, trying to head a deer off. See him coming through the woods about to cross in front of the truck.

Grab my .351 rifle, kick the truck into neutral, aim it at some small trees on the other side of a shallow ditch, open the door and roll out.

Catch my toe on a rock as I am trying to keep my footing, tumble, roll, and nail the deer while still sliding on the ground.

Then get up, limp over to the truck and back it off the trees and out of the ditch.
Load up the deer, catch the dogs, and haul all of them back to the hunting camp and skin him.

Thats redneck.

they work..

KISS

sheesh, this thread is ancient.. i did my K5 ones like right after this thread, like 6, 7 yrs ago..... keeping the power ones in Mutt tho.. but ditching the power locks.. those i hate ALL the time...
How was the conversion from power locks to manual?

never had powers to convert.. but I would.. ;) despise power locks...
It only took me 9 years to get power in mine. They work great other then the passenger window track is bent and kicks the window out going up
