Anyone ever buy from gov liquidation?

Anyone ever use them to buy anything? Thinking of picking up a m1008 for the axles, cab, motor, would I be better off looking elsewhere? auctions start at 50? how high do they usually go?

Thanks for any help!
Jack

A friend of mine is in the Army and he's buds with a guy that works the Gov't auctions. Says CUCVs and Deuces go pretty cheap sometimes. Says he's seen CUCVs go for under a grand. Only problem is, you can't inspect them from what I was told. You bid and hope you got a "good one".

He did say he'd hook me up if I ever wanted to go--he'd get the inside scoop on which ones were good so I'd know what I was bidding on.

Now if I just had a place to park a Deuce....

Interested in hearing about this too... and anyone who's ever owned a Duece :wink1:

They are going for pretty cheap and I have a place to park one...

Oh I've wanted one for years. Always thought they were the cat's PJ's :D:D:D

I'll ask my friend next time I talk to him. I don't know if the above-mentioned site is something that you use to bid, or if it's just to inform you of when/where the gov't auctions will take place.

I know the one's my friend was talking about are the ones where you gotta physically show up and bid.

Hopefully next time I move (next year I'm sure) I'll get a place with some real space to put junk...er...I mean PROJECT vehicles and parts.

Looks like there's 4 of them up for bid in Tacoma in a couple weeks, trick would be getting them home though I imagine :haha:

My same buddy has a sergeant who was determined to justify replacing the engine in a Deuce. They did everything possible to get the motor to blow. He said no matter what they did, they couldn't do it. They apparently dumped several bottles of 104+ into the tank (not sure what that would do) and something else...they managed to get a steady flame coming out the exhaust pipe on the interstate :haha:

He said the sarge finally got disgusted and drained the oil out and let it idle. He said it ran for another 30 minutes before locking up, LOL.

I have bought computers from them and was going to buy a m1009 from them too. I have been to two bases to look at CUCV equipment. I went to Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Mt Clemens, Michigan and Toledo Express Airport, Swanton Ohio. The Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DMRO) at Selfridge was way across base so we had a good inspection by two MPs with rifles and you must have insurance papers and a drivers license to show when you enter.

We were allowed to inspect (look at) them all we wanted but you could not start them if they had keys! In the winter they go up in price like any 4x4. The price climbs towards the end just like eBay does.

If you are set on buying bid on something in advance that way you get reviewed and approved before you try for a truck. We used to go to Columbus when I was on PD and get all kinds of crap through operation North Star for free. We got some M1010s for swat trucks but they were running and we drove them back.

I've never actually bought anything, but I've bid on several engines. The stuff seems to be going cheap. And, they let me inspect it. I didn't even call ahead, I just showed up and found someone to show me the stuff. No problems at all.
