Anyone ever LIFT a d60 into the back of a blazer with 6 inches of lift?????

We could always call some of those "labor ready" guys out , rent like 5 "labor ready" guys and put only ten minutes a peice on there time cards, buy em all a six pack and send them on there way. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gifWhat would that be?? Like 40 bucks?? /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif with the cheap beer of couarse Im almost 30 yrs old though now,i feel alot less motivated than before.im going to chalk this 85 blazer up to a "learning experiance" ,cut my massive losses and be on my way. Miscelanious inconclusive plans ,ramblings and mutterings for the FUTURE include........i can see, rolling from deep in the distance...a rust free all black first gen ......6 inch lift with 36 inch swampers,a dynatrack hi pinion this time, huge 454 built to the hilt motor or a 502,all black aftermarket interior ,seats etc. Thats what i really wanted originally.Lifes too short to not have what you really want.and thats what i wanted all along. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Know anybody with a plow hookup on the front of their truck? You can use the plow lift mechanism to lift the D60 and then strap it to the bumper. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Anyone ever LIFT a d60 into the back of a blazer with 6 inches of lift?

I can somewhat grasp the setup of an overhead pully hoist type deal you are all talking about, but, i dont have any overhead stuff to hook to. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif im smack dab in the middle of Sacramento county, where its all residential .and i have little to no tools other than my plumbing gear.I should have listened to old Grandpa when he told me never to leave the farm /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gifThe engine hoist setup is the most desirable setup out of them all i think. Btw with the overhead way, you would have to really tie the end of that strap down good, because theres almost 800 pounds on the other end.I could see myself flying in the air pretty good with that one /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I cant beleive no ones said this one yet........put wheels and tires onto the 60,and roll the [censored] up a trailer /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Did that with my old 1/2 ton stuff. Rolled it on the trailer. Back was easy, front was hard.

Re: Anyone ever LIFT a d60 into the back of a blazer with 6 inches of lift?

I've seen a guy use a tow dolly like the big RV's use to tow a car behind them to haul a 1 ton rear end home from the boneyard--they just rolled it on on strapped it down, and home they went!.
I had a similar dilema loading my 800lb Yardman 20hp riding mower in my truck before I put the crane and flatbed on it--I used to back up to a retaining wall in my yard that is nearly the same height as the truck bed,and simply drove it in--unloading it at its destination was often a problem--I had ramps but they are scary, with me on the mower it weighs over 1000 lbs,and I didnt trust my homemade ramps or 2x8 boards with that kind of weight,so I used the winch to pull it up the ramps--more than once something on the mower would catch and make the ramps fall, sending it crashing to the ground--after that I made the crane for the truck.
Ive also used a sturdy swingset to load heavy motors and such into my truck with a come-a-long--anyone have a beefy one nearby??.
I think a trailer would be an easy solution, not much to rent one, much easier to load-.
Maybe if the leaf springs were still attached you could chain them to your bumper, put the wheels on and tow it home!
I've used the plow frame idea too--I got the guy at the landill mad when I saw a snowblower in the scrap pile, and he wanted it for himself--he said "Ok,if you want it so bad, take it--IF you can get it on your truck alone!"with a big smirk on his face--I simply drove my truck up to it,wrapped a chain around it to my plow frame and drove away! His face was like /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif--I laughed all the way home!.
I have to get another 4x4 GM truck so I can keep my flatbed and crane--I need it to get rid of all the stuff I hauled home with it! /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif

Re: Anyone ever LIFT a d60 into the back of a blazer with 6 inches of lift?

I moved my 14 bolt and 10 bolt front with a trailer. No tires on the axles and two of us loaded and unloaded. Not fun.

Know anybody with a tow truck with a boom. It can lift it easily. Cherry picker type engine hoist is a good idea. Rolloff type tow truck you could just winch it up on the bed and haul it where you need to. Tires on the axles are a good idea.

I do like the idea of a tow dolly!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Anyone ever LIFT a d60 into the back of a blazer with 6 inches of lift?

It was all the me and two of my buddies could do to lift it up on a pallet from the ground and I will not try it again.

I've loaded & unloaded a complete D60 in the back of my truck with 8" springs. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
Strip it down. Take off the knuckles and the axles out. I took the carrier out also and lifted the whole D60 housing from the ground, carried it 30 feet and loaded it into the back of my truck myself. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I also know that KidJethro and Myself can lift a complete D44 and carry it 50 feet. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

dude, forget about all this engineering and back breaking crap. just go rent a little uhaul trailer that's 4" off the ground. i loaded my complete 14 bolt w/ wheels & tires still on in one very easily. i didnt rent the trailer just for that, i already had it, but, it was 10 times easier than lifting it up into the back of a lifted truck.

how much does it weigh?

[/ QUOTE ]

I remember reading that a complete D60, with rotors and all, is right around 535 lbs.

When I picked up my D60 & 14BFF, the 60 weighed more than the 14 for sure. We had 4 guys and it went easy enough. Removal is easy enough when your fatehr in law uses his front end loader. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif All I have to do is point to where I want it set down at. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

It's going to be a lot harder to move into position under the K5 later on.. since I'll be working in gravel... /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Yep, any front, including a 10 bolt, will kill you.

i'm dead? /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif i knew something didnt feel right when i got out of bed this morning.

Quit whining about it and just do it already! Use the masonite like I said, put the non pumpkin side up on the tailgate (it'll hold). Then the two of you can lift the other end up and slide it in. Like someone said, back up to the drivewat so your rear tires ar as low as they can go, then your tailgate will be closer to the sidewalk. Like I said, I did it myself. Just do a LOT of stopping and thinking through the next step. Make sure to come up with the BEST way for the two of you to accomplish whatever the next step is gonna be, you'll be allright. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Good ol Dale broght a engine hoist, 10 minutes and we diddnt even break a sweat
/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Ive heard some herrendous stories so far though /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif pullys and hoists ,cables and trees, /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif sound like a circus show /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif But at any rate, thanks for all the replys everyone, exept rjfguitar (j/k) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I would love to see a D60 hanging from a bumper going down the road that would be classic /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Yeah a PITA because the tires turn.

I think you should just put the dam thing under your blazer and wheel it, then you won't have this dilema.
Save your back, use it, don't loose it. /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif
OK - OK, if you must, get a trailer from someone or rent one. Put some tires on it and roll it on (you can do this by yourself. Don't load it in the back of a blazer unless your sure you can chain it down good because if your in a accident, it will cut you in half.
No d60 is worth having a split personality.
Be safe Bro.
