Anyone ever use this ATF?

ahh the coastal stuff sold at autozones .

we got basic old trannys so basic old fluid should be fine .

the killer is dirt and temps . so keep them in check should be just fine.

and yes I have run it before .

This just reminded me to install a tranny temp gauge in the new pan I'm planning on buying.

I've read some interesting posts online about using universal tractor hydraulic fluid in old GM transmissions like the TH350's and TH400's...
It seems many racers and farm owners have used it with excellent results under extreme conditions, towing, etc, and provided you use the proper rated fluid that covers the uses of Dextron II...in bulk pails of 5 gallons that can be had for 30 to 50 bucks a pail, thats a pretty economical alternative...
Supposedly the tractor fluid holds up under heat better, and is slightly thicker viscosity, which helps improve shift firmness and lowers the torque converter stall speed slightly...

This seems to be the best deal I've found on ATF. $42 for a 5 gallon bucket, thats 20 quarts at $2 a quart. Anyone have any opinions on it?

Does seem to be a good price. I only have one automatic, but I'm going to need fluid eventually. I've got an email into Warren asking them what the shelf life is, if they set one, if anyone is interested. I'll post up if I get a response.

IIRC Dexron is somewhere on the order of $4/qt singly most of the time.

So should be ok for a 700r4????

According to this http://www.shoppsc.com/pdf/coastal_dexron3_mercon_ATF_PDS.pdf Yes.

Anything GM prior to 2005.

Edit: BTW, my response from them

"You are welcome to give me a call at 1-800-428-xxxx ext. 3020, or my direct number is 870-400-xxxx, if you have a specific question. The anticipated shelf life for a sealed container of ATF, that has been properly stored (in doors, in a temperature controlled environment) is five years.

I removed the phone numbers as I assume he doesn't want a bunch of robocalls.
