I found it online for sale, and was wondering if it's worth is as a cheaper option then building a swing out on my bumper. I figure I would be able to get it to mount on a suburban w/ a tailgate. Anyone think I wouldn't? I would put reinforcement plates behind all the mounting areas. I know the stock single side swing outs are rated to hold a 33" tire, but what does everyone think I could get this to hold? My goal would be a 35"-37" tire and 2 fuel cans. Not sure if it would be strong enough. Opinions?

How much flex do you get in the Suburban in the rear? My only concern would be the bed sides moving relative to each other. Other than that it looks like a pretty solid piece...most I've seen mount the outside end to the tailgate.

What idea did you have for reinforcing the mounting? I've got one with similar mounts on the one corner, but getting anything between the two body panels that would actually spread the load looks to be extremely difficult.

I would never do a body mounted rear tire carrier. sheet metal aint made for that.

Looks like an old Cibie from the mid - late 70's. Cibie had a lot of accessories in the 70's. I've seen a few trucks with them over the years. While I wouldn't recommend mounting to sheetmetal, none of the trucks that I have seen showed signs of damage to the metal after 20-30 years of use and all the ones I have seen have had 33-35's.

I have a cross enterprises on my truck and couldn't be happier.
