I was watching the same underhood welder a little while back. They seem a bit pricey for me. But, if I did lots of heavy duty on-trail weldning, might be a different story. They can't seem to get anyone to bid high enough to clear their reserve, though, in their other auctions of the same product.

For a simple on-board welder for basic stuff, I plan to do My Jimmy with all her projects!

i've been wanting a welder for some time. this past summer i called the people at xena to find out more about it. i talked to i think one of the owner's for like 45 min , and i didn't even place an order. he was very helpful and great info, i'm definitely going xena when buy one. they have a great web site to. if i remember he said it's a different kind of welding, they use high frequency dc, that seems to make the arc hmmmm and vibrate the puddle to flush up the slag. he also said it's much more forgiving when you strike an arc, you can vary the distance from the work up to 1/2" without any ill effect. that could help alot if your hanging upside down in blizzard trying to draw a bead on something. hope that helps , and if you get one before i do (a few months) let me know how you like it.

looks like someone just bought the welder that you saw on e-bay, i know cause i bid on it and lost to someone who bought it outright. was it you chevygal. i'm still going to get one when the spring roles in and i got some more cash....

Check out Ready Welder II It is a spool welder that works of two or three 12 v batt and you can take it anywhere you want I think it will do 75+inch weld on one charge so most trail repairs are 6-10 inch so not much drain on the battery at all. You should be able to get one for 400-500 bucks and its not tied down to one truck Just carry the 12 lbs case (?) with you and use two 12 volts from the trucks. I think the one I got is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!
