Anyone here work at a tire shop?

Just an FYI, Discount tire has a service called "road force" like secret service guys, dressed up in suits, black glasses and earphones, and they use special high tech equipment to use on balancing tires.They use big special machines, with a big black curtain they pull over, so you cant see,,, and then WOOP!

ALL DONE! Instant truer than true big tires balanced! :haha: :D

Oh, just stupid little nitpicky stuff, about how saving 30 bucks isnt worth it, after the tires are mounted, having the guy say

" They might wobble a little bit"

on 33s????:haha:

I should have just payed the good shop, is all, because now my 33 radial wannabe knowckoff bfgs are gonna wobble accroding to him. But they shouldnt!:doah:

So im gonna go to discount tire and have to majic voodoo on my tires if they dont roll good on the freeway tommorow (they arent mounted yet)

Well... to be completely honest with you, I balanced my 32" BFGs when I mounted them. The lightest balance I did was 2 oz total weight (amazing) and the heaviest was 15 oz total weight... (SUCKS!!!) So it's really a tossup... some tires are just naturally more balanced than others even of the same lot number. I would suggest using leetle plastic BBs or that wheel balancing powder sh!t.

I dunno, but this "its gonna wobble" bs is driving me crazy.

Why didnt you get them balanced to start with?

Like Phoenix said its a toss up as to what they'll do, Ive seen some tires not need much at all but also have seen a good BFG or Goodyear need up to 15 or so oz. Usually Id try to turn the tire on the rim to see if I could get that better.

You can always balance them, just have to start using different techniques to do it. I wouldnt worry too much, any competent shop should be able to balance a damn 33" with no issues.
 
A decent shop can balance just about anything they put their mind to, provided they really WANT to. I worked at a shop for 3 years and am still really close friends with the owner, so they always make sure that my stuff is done right. Most shops just don't want to put that kind of work into it, especially the larger chains. Your best bet is to find a local shop and get to know the folks down there. Throwing a tip towards the guy busting his hump to get your ride just right never hurts, either.

At any rate, balancing 33s shouldn't be that hard for ANY shop with decent equipment...
 
Whell i dosent matter anyways, DR (the previous owner),(mabey forgot, or mabey it never came with any),, i never remember anything about getting the key to remove the dam gorilla bolts, because there on there, and it just pissed on my parade, man i was pissed:haha:

Oh yeah.... I noticed the thefty lug nuts when we were loading it on in Livermore....I forgot to say something to ya...:laugh: :rotfl:
 
Its ok i bullied them off with a hammer and a socket:saweet:

Three of tham at least, the other one got smooth


All of this for some tires, sheesh:rotfl:
 
any shop can "balance" any tire. Road Forcing is the term used to see how out of round a tire is, it's like balancing the tire if it were on the truck going down the road. The machine that does the magic is a Hunter DSP 9700. It will tell you how many pounds of road force, wether the wheel or tire should be replaced, the run out of the wheel and the best place to sping the wheel and tire for the best possible ride. I work at a tire shop and we had a tire on the front of a dually that was hopping really bad. It was balanced to .25oz when we checked it, but road forced it and came out to 115LBS, the max you should have in a LT tire is like 39LBS. We spun the wheel and tire, and viola, rode smooth. It is a pain in the butt, and takes longer, but it can be done.

I bet your rig on 33's ride like a caddilac compared to my burb on 42's :haha: . They (Shwalb) tried to balance them but theres only so much you can do . They used equal this time instead of the tiny plastic pellets (looks like sand) .
