Anyone know why my 6.2 rattles so much

I am guessing this is not normal. It has done it since I have owned it. I few locals who seemed to know say it is the IP going out. Let me know what you think!

I don't think it's too much, sounds like most 6.2's I've heard, but most have that because they turned the fuel up for more power.
Maybe the PO did that.

it does sound like the timing is a little off, when you add fuel to make more power the engine is happier with a little less timing advance.

Does sound like the injection pump timing is too advanced...

So what do I do to make this more quiet?

Is it a matter of timing the IP?

I am willing to replace or upgrade parts. Turbo is in the plans once my house is built.

I think I will order a EGT gauge and start playing with my timing and my fuel. I cannot get this thing to throw black smoke. Even with 10K in firewood chugging up steep hills.

Have you checked all of the accessories for the noise? My A/C compressor sounded very similar before dying on me.

i would have the timing checked before messing with the fuel. once its timed properly, add the pyro and feel free to add some fuel once you have a baseline of your EGT's

it should give black smoke under full throttle loaded, that much firewood in it should load it up quite nicely.

Well it looks like my rubber pully (is this the harmonic balancer?) is no good. It is missing a LARGE chunk of the rubber. This is most likely some of my issue.

So should I get a new one? What does that run? What about the fluidamprs?

That is the torque converter. The bolts are loose and hitting the inspection cover. I just delt with the same thing.

I've seen torque converter bolts come loose too. I bought a Diesel K5 with only 48 000 or so original miles on it for 500 bucks cause the transmission was apparantly shot, and the engine apparantly had a busted crank.

I pulled it all apart and found the torque converter bolts had backed out and beat the crap out of the flywheel, torque converter and along inside the bellhousing of the block. Replaced the converter, flywheel and bolts and had a truck that ran and drove like brand new.

Sold it a few days later for 2500 bucks :) Coulda got more, but the thing was only run in the winter, so it had some major rust issues...

Change that now since you have seen it, it will break you crank if you leave it.
As for Fluidamper, I heard they were making one for the 6.2 but I don' know if it's out yet, I think they were saying June but it doesn't hurt to call them and ask.

I spoke to them over email. It is ready. Around $400 shipped!!!!

I am going to see if my local napa the stock part and for how much. I get a 22.5% discount there.

Anyone have opinions on the fluidampr? Would you spend the extra $$$ for it?

I will look into te TC after I resovle the balancer issue.

If it is the TC, perhaps I convince my wife that a NV4500 would be the best idea! :D

Listening to the noise, and having had that TC issue in 5 different vehicles from lose bolts to cracked flexplate, I can say I doubt it is, the noise seems to smooth out when you push the gas pedal.
When the bolts were lose they were hitting the engine and the noise would get faster and louder as I accelerate.
The cracked flexplate would only make noise at idle when I accelerate it went away so check that one.
Check everything anyway once you are under it but i doubt it's the bolts :D

And fluidamper has been way better than any stock dampr, so hopeully there 6.2 version is the same.

That Balancer isn't thrashed. IT'S GONE! :eek1::eek1:

Here's another vote for the Fluidampnr. Haven't heard anything bad about 'em yet. I will be putting one on my build.
