Anyone know why my 6.2 rattles so much

Anyone know the torque specs for the four bolts that hold the pully assembly (what I removed and am replacing) to the harmonic balancer? My chiltons says 200ft lbs. (crankshaft pulley). I have broken two of the bolts even before I got to 100 ft lbs?

Help????!!!!

200 lbs is for the big bolt holding the balancer one. The 4 bolts holding the pulley to the balancer would only be 25-30 lbs if that.

makes a lot of sense. that is what i was figuring. what threw me off is the chiltons lables it as "crankshaft pully bolts". i will throw them on at 30lbs.

thanks a ton!

You can generally figure the TQ by the size of the fastener. 3/8" bolts tend never to be torqued to more than 35-40 lbs, unless they're fine thread or something made of unobtanium.

i don't have my manual in front of me, but i'm remembering those 4 bolts to be 60lb-ft.

truck sounds much better now. will post a new video tomorrow.

now to the gp's, ip, and injectors. I noticed some white smoke at unloaded throttle. It smelt like unburnt diesel.

White smoke is unburnt fuel with a cold chamber, like when it's warming up, are you getting white smoke after the truck is warm and has been running?
It could be the injectors are going bad and dumping too much fuel (poping at low pressure) I know I have this problem and will rebuild them soon.:o

It throws white smoke at throttle even when warm. To me it smells like unburnt diesel, but I am a rookie when working on these things. Just to sooth my mind, coolent will not smell anything like diesel correct?

I am hoping it is not the head gasket. It smokes out of both sides, but the drivers side is more pronounced. I did not notice this problem until I fixed the pully.

Well one way to know for sure is to take the injectors off and pop test them, my buddy had that problem and got them tested they were poping at 30PSI instead of IIRC 250PSI so he got some rebuilt injectors and it runs stronger and only smokes for a few seconds at start up then nothing no matter what.
Usually they will not charge you for the testing if you end up buying rebuilts and if you don't then it's I think $7 per injector, some charge $5

the injectors for a 6.2 should be popping at ~1900psi, no lower than 1700psi.

Well obviously I don't know the numbers:o but yeah his were poping at 30

no prob, if his engine is lower mileage you can have the injectors rebuilt to 6.5 specs (iirc 2300psi) for a slight mileage and power increase.

school me on this! why lower mileage only? i think my injectors need rebuilt, and i've got 20k on my rebuild (never did the injectors or pump...$$$!)

mainly due to the fact, that on higher mileage engines the injector pump is already worn. It must work harder to build the higher pop pressures,
