I'm thinking of going from my current dual 2.25" straight pipes [installed by PO not me] and replacing all that garbage w/ a single 3" system.

How is the performance w/ a 3" single on a 350? Would I possibly lose low end?

Plans is to run long tube headers, to 3" single w/ Super 40 and exit behind the cab or in front of the rear tire.

Also, I CAN'T FIND SM465 TO NP205 GASKET ANYWHERE??
Anyone have a suggestion?

I run a single 3" exhaust off the stock manifolds. I think it sounds great, don't know about power because I don't have a dyno.

I got my 465-205 gasket at my local chevy dealer.

Good luck!

What're you running for a muffler?

I have the same setup. 350 with long tube headers, into a single cat and single Flowmaster 40. I currently have it turned down right before the rear axle, but will eventually have it exit infront of the back tire.

I think this setup is pretty good. Its not obnoxiously loud at idle and cruising. But its got a good sound when you get on it.:D

I run a single 3" exhaust with a Gibson muffler and a high flo cat.

A single 3" exhaust will make more low end torque than a 2.25" dual exhaust.

Looking to learn a little here so sorry for the hijack. Why does a single 3 make more low end? Does it have to do with scavanging the exhaust gasses or something?

Ditto on the single exhaust making better torque, also IMO it just sounds smoother.

I am running home built long tube headers w/ 3" "Y" pipe & a single 4" mandrel bent exhaust w/ a 4" 50HD series Flow. It dumps in front of the rear axle. I love it. Gotta have a lot of exhaust for a stroked Caddy.

im running a single 3" off of my stock manifolds with a magnaflow muffler and high flow cat, the shop that put it in liked my truck and gave me a good deal and did a great job tucking it up in my truck. it was replacing a horrible 2 inch exhaust that hung way down and was held on with bailing wire

I run single 3" with a HUGE truck magnaflow muffler. It sounds good when you get on it, but at idle, it's quieter than my 4 cylinder car.

I want it to be louder.

Thx for the replies so far guys.

What do I do about the Y pipe? Do I buy one separately or get it done right there at the shop? Should the Y pipe be 3" coming right off the headers the whole way down?

Have your local muffler shop build the Y pipe for you. If the headers have a large enough collector (they should) then yes, build a 3" Y pipe.

I am running a set of headers running to a single 2.5" pipe, and it works great for me. I never rev my engine above 4000 rpm anyways, so I don't need a 5" exhaust system (2.5" duals) for the engine to breath, lol

I am running a 2.5" in / out Flo Pro muffler without a cat, which exits at 45 degrees behind the driver's side tire. The thing has a nice note at an idle and when crusing (no droning at all), but has some serious bark when you get on it.

I have 2.5" coming off my headers into a y then a 3" high flow cat and Summit turbo to 2.5" tail pipe. You can run a smaller after muffler since the exhaust gasses have cooled some.

Take a look at the picture that boz42 posted up. He droped his exhaust at the rear axle. You would be better off doing that way.
