Personally, my opinion is that unless you need to do something with the motor that the stock ignition might cost you some power (racing, engine RPM's up in the 6000+ range) then adding additional components to fail is absurd. My guess is that since you are talking stock TBI, racing isn't a consideration. 
You can adjust timing on TBI without adding any components, if you REALLY want to mess with the timing, work within the system. Don't add something.
