Anyone running a police style spotlight?

Found this pick in the lift thread in the garage. I think it would be cool to have but they might leak after a while. Not sure I'd use them very often either. Kinda neat though, make it look like an ex gov vehicle

I've had one of those on the center top of my truck for year's...works great esp for winching recoveries!

My rig was originally a PSO (Public Service of Oklahoma) rig, had one when I bought it. F'N LOVE THE THING! it has never leaked or whistled. We used to install them on every fleet truck we got when I worked at the refinery, take your time drilling the hole, make sure it's lined up right.

Any reason you can't just run a hand held spotlight?

In my youth when we were looking at crops...ahemspottingfordeerahem...at night we used handheld spotlights and they worked great. Except for having put the window down on the cool/wet evenings...but you usually couldn't see chit then either.

I kinda like the remote setup Fordum put up.

Yeah, I used to have one of those handheld ones for when I delivered pizzas in highschool. Worked great, no drilling needed.

the thing i like most about the Unity lights are, you can aim them and just drive or get out and work........hands free. handhelds would be better for "tracking" what you want to see i think.

I've had a brandy new Unity spotlight hiding in its box under my bed for about 20 years now..always wanted to put it on one of my trucks (my '72 K5 is what I bought it for originally)--but never had the courage to try drilling the windsheild pillar..I dont have the mounting kit for it,just the light and handle (because you have to order them for the specific vehicle and I wasn't sure what I'd end up using it on )--I wonder if they even have the kits for the 73-87 GM's any more?....more than once I've wished I had it on my plow trucks!...It'd look cool on my '85 Burb too..

wow, now that nightblaster might be just what I am looking for. I wonder how fast it moves? I might have to order one of those. Guess I need to get my cig lighter working first~

Looking around on Amazon similar units got a poor review. Hrmmm...I like the concept but nothing from the Nightblaster line seems to get good reviews. Lots of comments on the light output rating being way over rated.

They sell better ones than that one I posted. I was just trying to keep it in the same price range.
If you want to do it right, get one that mounts permanently with a wireless remote.

You can do a search on wireless remote controlled spotlights.

There is at least one out there that uses HID. Just remember those do not get full brightness instantly.
But the wireless ones are the answer to the set and forget post mounted one. Not only can you set it to light up where you are working, but you can take the little wireless control with you and adjust it when you get there.

Friend had one on his boat. If we were at the stern at night trying to land a fish, he could turn it on and move it around from there to get the angle he wanted so we could see but not have it in our eyes.
