Anyone seen this gas mileage idea???????

typo!!

I think since the "S" key is right next to the "D" key--he meant to say ADD!!--not A**!.. :D

I just tested this with my xj6, I travel 175mi upstate on a regular basis, same speed(75-85),same route, off hours(zero traffic) about 10x a year, the computer always reads 25.2mpg (I reset every trip ), I just got back and computer read 28.4mpg after running 2.5 oz. of accetone per 10gal. just my 2 cents, ERIK

Gas milage

A co-worker found out that this works best on gas that doesn't have the adatives methenol or ethenol in it. He had a rental car for two weeks and got 4 or 5 miles better milage using the 3oz's to 10gal's.

Acetone

I might try it on my 26 year old Jimmy, but I'd be a bit wary about putting it in my brand new $35,000 05 Silverado. I'll see how it goes with the Jimmy first!

I forgot about this thread. Here's my results.
I ran acetone for about a month or so last summer back and forth to work 44 miles a day and general driving in my 89 K5. put on about 1000 miles on the clock. Acetone improved my gas milage about 1.5 miles per gallon average city highway. Seemed to work best on the highway. Average milage city/hiway went from 15mpg(1000 mile average) to 16.5 MPG with acetone.
But
After running Acetone for a month. I checked my plugs to see what they looked like. Normally they are clean with no deposits very light tan electrode. After acetone they were covered all over with a rust red colored deposit. Didn't like the Idea of all those deposits in the combustion chamber. So I threw in a new set of AC delcos and quit using the stuff. So With the price of the acetone and a new set of plugs I dont think acetone is worth using.
was using 3oz per 10 gallons.

i will start running acetone in my 92 dakota on next fillup..im getting 21 to 22 mpg in the city and 24-26 on trips...im hoping to get around 25 in the city when its all said and done with...

i got 1mpg just from adding mystery oil to my oil at oil change somehow so lets see what acetone does...

... try running 87 octane for a tank then run 91... you will get alot better mileage with the 91 octane. that is why some people don't mind buying 91 all the time. It evens itself out with better gas mileage. My dad was the one i got this from when he ran 87 and 91 in all of our vehicles and found a pretty significant increase in gas mileage. I'd rather just put 91 in all the time then run acetone through my system. If you read far enough into the article it reveals that all its doing is changing the octane. But acetone is some bad stuff for any king of plastic, gasket, or rubber. 91 octane however isn't.

If i still had my 180,000 mile stock 350 in there i wouldn't do it because acetone will eat seals and gaskets and pretty much anything that gets in its way besides metal. I sure as hell won't put it in my 0 mile 355. Maybe i'll get my bro to try it in his tired 4.3.

It depends on the engine, timing and vehicle. Some vehicles respond very well to higher octane some don't.

I agree with ktmoutfront,

Doing the speed limit is the best way to save gas.

Just keep the RPM's as low as possible.

The conspiracy theorists who think that the goverment/big oil/the big 3 are holding back some kind of quick and easy solution to fuel and/or emissions issues crack me up. It makes absolutely no sense.

update with me...

i filled up the other day and was getting 21.48 in the dd dakota...i added 3 oz of acetone and immediatly the motor ran smother and i didnt have a tick on the top end...

i have been about 150 miles and cant really tell a diffrence by the gauge but hopefully when i fill up again the calculation will show diffrent...we will see what happens

Wow this is an old thread, but it reminds me of when they started adding MTBE to our gas in CA to reduce pollution but lots of cars got worse mileage even though emmissions were lower. Also, it had a tendancy to eat away at older rubber fuel lines and seals so they started leaking more often. They've now been removing it because of it pollutes in other ways.

I'd be careful adding in stuff like that in old cars that weren't made to handle it. Plus there's a good reason why they banned acetone and other stuff like tolulene from paints in many parts of the country. The stuff is pretty harmful to your nervous system.

shiat!!!!

you cant find acetone or tolulene here in arkansas and if you do happen to get some, you may get a not so friendly visit from dea:haha:its a shame too, i used to work at a fertilizer plant in an industrial park and beside us was a tar company and they had tolulene for cleaning their test instruments and i would get 4-6 ozs. added(they would come put it in my tank, but would NOT just let me have it)every time i filled up and it did increase my mpg!!....i was driving 2 hrs 1 way to work and everyday i checked my mpg and w/tolulene it was 3-5 mpg higher......being a welder i also know that acetone is added to acytelene tanks to stabilize them!

can u guys still find acetone/tolulene in hardware stores? i see this thread is from 2005 and just wondering if you can still buy the stuff like you could back then? i sure the heck can't!!!

how about this idea...its using battery current to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen and pulling the hydrogen via vaccum into motor saying up to 100% increase.
