anyone use a blazer as a tow rig.......

I have known guys who have towed race cars, drag cars, and even some mud runner pickups with theirs. Weight distributing hitch is a must and brakes on the trailer, those little half ton brakes don't do a very good job stopping a blazer plus a trailer.

I plan to use mine to tow Horton around until I get my crew cab done. 35" tires,4.56 gears, and a 700 with a 6.2 I don't think I will be able to get going fast enough to worry about doing a sway control:D

You can do it and safely but everything has to be right, brakes on the trailer are very important with a blazer

i think this thread was answered so......tongue weight is probably the most important behind trailer brakes. too much and you can't steer or stop, too little and the trailer sway is bad.

djtejas, a 700+ (at 10%) pound tongue weight without a weight distributing hitch is not a good idea...did you use one?

I know it would be the ideal thing to do...only had to do it a couple of times and for very short distance. Did have brakes though...
I mostly only hauled stuff in the 2,000-3,000 range

With the 3.08 gears, this was all it wanted.

We need to sit down and figure out the tow ratings on these things. I keep vacilating between like 4500lbs and 6000lbs.

I know a year or so ago when I moved south I pulled a trailer that weighed at most a ton total and had the interior loaded with myself, my two dogs, and the back jammed to capacity. The truck was working and a few times it wasn't fun on the road. I can't imagine, even with a weight control hitch, towing anything close to 6000lbs.

Good hitch and towing setup, anything under 3000lbs and I'd do it all day.

how does the trailer hitch mount up to a Chalet? do those rigs have a chassis extension?..
They do, but I've heard they are a bit on the lightweight side. My ex-Chalet had a custom made 1-piece set of extensions and bumper that could have been used as an anchor for large boat. I'm guessing most every one has some kind of fabbed system. Our CK5 man here "azblazer" (owner of the Yahoo Chalet forum) could probably tell you about his setup, if we can find him....

Mine came with a hitch, and yes they made a frame extension from some beefy C channel, the only problem is now you have more leverage because your ball is about 4' from the axle, meaning more sway.
I wouldn't tow more than 2000 lbs with a chalet without a weight distributing hitch.
I towed my boat around 2000-2500 and it was OK.

That is scary.
Not the 3.08 gears but putting that truck with the heavy engine in the back of the trailer.
That thing will sway like crazy like that. Ask me how I know. :doah:

hahahaha

I was wondering when someone would comment on that. That truck had a blown rear axle that was locked up. We had to use a tractor and a come along to drag it up on the trailer. Luckily I only had to pull it a couple of miles.

i wanted to say something, but i was just being polite :D

Yeah, I couldn't get around to the front of it, and like I said, I was only going a short distance. If I would have actually had to pull it further, I would have turned it around to load it.

cool....thanks

For some reason, I'm digging the dually blazer. I saw some suburbans like that, but the blazer has some coolness goin on.

On the movie twister, weren't those suburbans with dually rear axles? They used the inside as a command center.

thanks.....i'm curious as to what the factory rated the Chalets to tow, as it becomes kinda like a see-saw.........i'd guess around 2,500 or so.

that dually blazer was done very well and i'm sure some resources were spent.......but it still makes about as much sense as an elevator in an outhouse.
