same part # for both sides?

Hey Bad Dog, I went ahead and scrapped the idea of the older style Ford mounts and went with the cast ones. A couple of things I noticed; they were much easier to install than the stamped metal ones, with the holes already there. I ended up mounting mine exactly in the same spot as you did. I didn't really look at your pics first, but after fiddling around with the mount, they just naturally ended up there. It puts the shock at nearly the same angle as stock as you said. However, there is something I did notice. The top shock mount has a slight upward angle to it. So, I noticed that the lower eye, while not exactly centered or straight in the axle mount, is close. But, the top eye bushing is at a pretty good angle. It looks from your pics that yours is the same. I'm wondering if I am going to destroy those bushing rather fast? Maybe a pair of polyurethane replacements might be in order. I have Bilstein 5150's by the way. What is your experience on this? I'm also thinking of getting some rubber sheeting and bolting it in there where I cut the notch out of the fender well to keep the crap out of the engine bay. Here are some pics of mine:

There was something in Petersons a few months back I believe, I remember some short blurb about them and a pic. Looks good, might have to think about doing this myself /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Sorry Branndon, I just now saw this. Yes, they are the same part.

A write-up might be helpful. It doesn't look too diffiult. But, hey....why reinvent the wheel? /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif

I don't think the problem with the bushing angle will be a big deal, I've seen worse. If it is, I'll replace them, but I don't see how much else can be done. I'll post up if it becomes a problem...

So this is the part number for the s/d towers. f81z1813aa right?

Just wanted to make sure this was the number for the towers pictured above.

Sorry, somehow managed to miss your reply. Still going strong, and it's driven pretty much daily...

ive got the 85 f-250 towers and it looks to me like you didnt angle the towers enough. thats one of the reasons for putting them on. it makes your truck ride like a cadillac and you get alot more flex out of it. 1976 k5 350/350/203 14bffm, d44 locked front and rear, 3" body, 3" spring.

The angle is really a matter of choice and hardware selection. With the cast towers, you don't really have a lot of choice without a lot of work due to clearance issues. But with 12.5" travel shocks like the 5012s, most lifted trucks will never use that travel without custom spring work anyway (something like Alcans or 52" swaps). So then it's just a matter of valving for ride quality (or other goals) at that point. 5012s have very little compression valving anyway, so they still soak up bumps fairly smoothly, but they can control rebound much better if they are more vertical. I actually find it rides and drives better with the more vertical shock. And that is apples to apples because nothing else changed, just the angle of the shock.
