Anyone willing to help me out here?

Ok, my bad...6" suspension lift. Better now? I get the whole wow you're a girl thing quite often so no offense was taken trust me. I pull up to lights and see the surprise when a female is driving. (Might have something to do with the fact the color of my beast is gray, black and white camo.) Think most people feel a scary big dude must be driving! It's not your usual color and sort of is scary to see bearing down on you in the rear view. I never have a problem when changing lanes that is for sure! I do admit I am well very lost with all the technical stuff. I can wire anything like nobodys business but ask me to tune a carb and I will be standing there for a days. My thing right now is to do something with the exhaust. I sucks and not in the good way. It's stock so I want to add some headers...maybe a high flow cat and mufflers. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I am open to any ideas!

Welcome aboard.

You better get comfortable, if you are anything like some of us you will be here all day long...and all night sometimes.

Later

Have you driven OVER a Ford lately?

Hey,
Do you have any pics of the blazer cause I'm gonna do some spray paint camo and wanna see some cammoed trucks. I don't really like the M1009 camo. I wanna see what the black/grey/white looks like cause I haven't seen it too much on trucks.

By the way....welcome to ck5

I have Flowmasters 3 chamber series 40 with deltaflow they are nice and deep sounding. If you want something a little louder and cheaper the 2 chamber series 40 would work good. Small block Chevys do good with smaller tubing like 2 1/2" and headers.

I wonder why this post is lasting this long? hhhmmmmm.....

Good lord! Let the girl get settled in before you start hitting on her! hahahaha, Ohhh I live here and ohh let's go wheeling hahaha.
Serious, this is a good bunch of folks. Just get these guy's in line LOL. Any problem you have I'm sure you can find the answer here.

As for your exhaust you need to find some C.A.R.B. legal headers and the problem here is fit. I tried to run a set of Dynomax sold by Jegs under the Cyclone name and they hit the front drive shaft on my wifes 79 (now don't go hitting on my wife guy's). Her truck was still stock suspension and it hit just sitting level. Your truck I think will also have a smog pump so to get it past the smog Nazi's that has to stay operational. Waxer (and he's married with 3 kids so won't be hitting on you hahaha) had some dealing with the Nazi's and might be a good source for information as to what has to stay operational. His truck is old enough that it didn't have a pump but he had some issues about EGR and got pretty versed in what has to be there. As for Cat's. If you have the brick style Cat (and probably do since your truck is late 80's) it is pretty free flowing. Cheap wise you might be able to get a Cat off a 90's Vett in the junk yard and get best bang for the buck. I think your laws will keep you stuck to a single converter and the issue here is size. CATCO make some of the least restrictive cats on the cheap side but in limited sizes. I can get away with Dual cats and got cat's for $50 each that are rated up to 4.0 Since I was only running half the engine through each cat I was well within it's ratting. Like I said though you may have a fairly good cat already. the restrictive cats were the style with the pellets and I'm pretty sure that was long gone by the time your truck was built.
Now the size of the exhaust has to do with the size the exhaust manifold/header can handle. The bigger the diameter the better for top end but it moves your Torq curve up. same goes for headers...the longer and the biger the primary tubes (tube from head to flange where it joins the other) the better for top end and the worse for low end.
You drive a Truck and while HP is what get you to top speed it's the Torq that gets that truck moving off the line. I would stay with a short tube header and a conservative exhaust diameter. That will get you the best mid RPM performance and off the line power and that's where your truck will be happiest and get you decent gas milage. If you can get away with true duals I would say a 2-2.25 diameter exhaust pipes would be good. A H pipe would help but H Pipes need to be as close to the headers as possible and as short as possible. On a 4x4 Truck there just isn't a good place for it. If you have to go single exhuast and Cat then try to get 2 inch from manifolds to a 2 into 1 Cat and then run a 3 inch diameter pipe from the cat to the rear.
The key here is to do some research and get the right stuff that will pass your very strict emmissions. It would get very expensive to slap some stuff on that somebody that wasn't versed in CAL emissions told you to get and then have the Nazi's fail your truck and cause you to have to redo it and wast lots of cash. Make sure it has CARB EO registration number. I hear they look for that on Aftermarket manifolds.

My post lasted this long cuz I wanted it too so reason enough.... :-)

Thanks for the info on the exhaust. CA is full of smog laws fun fun for me!

Hmmm I wonder should I add a pic or what?!!? Not for now...sorry guys....!

Hate to say I told ya so, Stephanie...but do I know these bums, or WHAT! I think if ya post a pic they'll be fighting each other to do free work on yer truck! Just keep in mind that us maniacs mean well...even if we can't go in public un-escorted. Welcome Again.

Hi Stephanie, Having a female posting questions about her K5 is very cool. I'm sure there are other women in here, but they just don't surface as often as we would like. You can get lots of good help in here so don't be shy about asking questions. The only question you can't ask, is " Will 35" tires fit under a 4" lift?" Any other question is OK.
Grim-Reaper is one of CK5's resident gurus and the information he shares is always right on target. California smog laws will dictate what you can and can't do with your exhaust system, so it would be wise to talk to some reputable muffler shops before spending any money on exhaust system parts. I have a friend who has been in the business of designing and installing custom, CA smog legal, exhaust systems for many years. His shop is located in Concord and I would be glad to help you get in touch with him. I know that's 50 miles away from you, but I think he could get you started in the right direction over the phone. If you would like to talk to him, just let me know. I'll prep him for your call and send you his phone number in a private message on this site. Good Luck.

another issue with exhaust is where you want it to exit.
do you want it out the side, like stock? or straight out the back? if you run it all the way out the back, you won't be able to drive with your rear window down, because the exhaust fumes will get sucked into your cab.
the rear wind deflector / spoiler thingie takes care of that, but you have to find one, buy it, and install it. my truck has duals out the back, so i'm looking for a spoiler.
i think if you dump out right behind the wheels on either side, you'll be ok, though. i'm sure the fellas will weigh in on this one.

there's a full convertible blazer right outside town thats cammo'ed in black, grey and white. looks pretty trick. what kind of rims do you have?

don't lie. its a courier with a campershell

Just a thought on the exhaust out the side. Watch where they go if you ever want to do a shackle flip. I'm gonna hafta cut my stock pipe when I do the flip!!

We all live, sleep, breathe, dream about Blazers, Jimmies.. You already know that.. be sure to create your webpage that CK5 provides you...
Good luck with your Truck..

It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Welcome to the board! It is VERY addicting! Another option for where to exit your exaust is jus dump it! No, don't throw it away! You can do what is called "dumps". That is when the exhaust exits under the truck, toward the ground. There will be no exhaust fumes in the cab and you won't have to worry about clearance if you do a shackle flip. The only downfall is that with the exit being closer to the muffler, your exhaust will be louder!
