I still don't think he should go with a detroit, that truck will see trips to Tahoe (snow and ice) and probably spend most of it's time on the street. He doesn't plan on doing anything crazy offroad so having one wheel way up in the air etc.

if you arent going to do any real offroading, just keep the diff open. Thats cheaper and easier on parts anyway. Buying "limited slip X" now, and an ARB later on when you want to 'get hardcore' sounds like a whole lot of $ being spent for not to much gain. Just leave it open and if the rig ever gets wheeled and you need it, upgrade to an arb (or whatever) later.
for the record, I have front and rear detroits, and never noticed any locking/unlocking stability problems at freeway speeds. I get a chirp or two on a tight corner in a parking lot, but no problems with normal driving. Others experience may vary.

Real offroading? Yeah because we would do some fake offroading. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif I guess we aren't "offroading" because we aren't as hardcore as you, right? /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
Just kiddin' Jek, ya asshat. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Well I have a govlok that works decently and I know it has been just enough to get me over the top of a couple hill climbs and through a few holes...oh wait..through our fake offroading. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif
I'd rather have a posi out back than in the front. I still don't understand why a good LS wouldn't be good enough? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif If he stays out of the "real" ( /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif) wheeling stuff and sticks to obstacle where he can keep both rear tires on the ground then he will have traction, especially with having an ARB'd front. And with that he doesn't sacrafice any onroad performance. /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
But hey, thats my opnion, I don't have enough experience offroad comparing detroits and LS's...I just know my govlok has worked well. /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif
